Hamas said on July 31, 2024, that one of its leaders was killed in an Israeli air strike in Iran. , Ismail Haniyeh was reportedly in Tehran after attending the inauguration of the Iran’s new president. Iran and Hamas have blamed Israel for the assassination, but Israel has not yet officially commented. Israel has admitted killing the most senior commander of another group, Hezbollah on July 31.
