Israel and the Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah exchanged fire over several days starting September 20, 2024. The escalation in hostilities was the most intense since Israel’s war with Hamas militants in Gaza began last year. The Israeli military said 150 rockets, missiles and other projectiles were fired at Israel over the weekend starting September 21, and most of them originated in Lebanon. The attacks followed a September 20 Israeli air strike in Lebanon’s capital Beirut that killed dozens of people, including a top Hezbollah commander.
