Hamas-led militants freed five Thai hostages on January 30, 2025, as part of a ceasefire deal in the Israel-Gaza war. The migrant farmers, most of them believed to be from Thailand’s impoverished northeastern provinces, were reported to be in fair health. Hamas also released three Israelis, in exchange for 110 Palestinian prisoners. The militant group has promised to free a total of 33 Israeli hostages over the next six weeks, while Israel said it will release nearly 2,000 Palestinians and withdraw its forces from major cities in Gaza.
