Shenzhou 17, China’s latest crewed space mission, successfully lifted off on October 26, 2023. A team of three astronauts is on its way to the Tiangong space station. For the next six months, the astronauts will conduct scientific experiments, test technology, and extend the station’s capabilities. It’s the youngest-ever Chinese space crew to set off into orbit, with the team leader set to become the first astronaut to enter the station for a second time. The deputy director of China’s space agency invited other countries and regions “committed to the peaceful use of outer space” to take part in the programme.
