China is building an unprecedented rocket assembly plant on the country’s tropical island of Hainan. Once completed in 2024, the mega factory would be capable of producing 50 Long March 8 rockets every year, which is nearly double China’s current annual launch capacity. With nearly 13,000 satellites planned to launch, China is catching up with SpaceX’s Starlink programme.
