Chinese premier touts cooperation with Asean amid controversy over China’s new ‘10-dash line’ map

Chinese Premier Li Qiang has said that cooperation between China and Asean will be “as firm as ever”. He was speaking at the gathering of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), which got under way in Indonesia on September 6, 2023. Li told Asean leaders that both sides will be able to "press ahead against all odds". His comment came after China released its new official map, which some Southeast Asian countries have disputed. China’s latest "10-dash line" map appears to expand its claims to most of the South China Sea. The 4-day trip is Li’s first official visit to an Asean country as premier since he took office in March.
