Indonesia’s new President Prabowo Subianto met his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on November 9, 2024. During Prabowo’s first trip abroad since being sworn into office, the Chinese leader invited Jakarta to join Beijing in leading the Global South. Xi and Prabowo oversaw the signing of eight agreements that included a consensus document on joint development of fisheries, oil and gas in maritime areas where the two nations have overlapping claims.
