Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on March 8, 2023, that allegations of Chinese meddling in Canadian elections were “ridiculous”. Canadian media have recently published detailed reports of alleged Chinese interference in Canada’s elections in 2019 and 2021, which Beijing has vehemently denied. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on March 6 that he would appoint an independent special investigator to look into the allegations.
