Age: 24. Ellis Wong began overseas training in 2019 in Adelaide, Australia. Initially attached to trainer Grant Young's stable, Wong started race riding in Australia in early 2021 before switching to the yard of Gary Searle for further experience. During his time in Australia, Wong landed 88 winners and became a popular three-kilogram claiming apprentice with several trainers. His best day in the saddle came on 7 January, 2023, when he rode four winners at Gawler. Returning to Hong Kong for the latter part of the 2022/23 season, Wong became indentured to trainer Caspar Fownes. He launched his Hong Kong career on 7 May, 2023 and soon after he opened his Hong Kong account aboard Storm Legend. He ended that term with three wins. In the 2023/24 season, he added a further 23 wins to his budding record. He continued to improve in 2024/25, hitting peak form late in the season when he landed his first treble at the Sha Tin meeting on 28 June. He went on to ride his 45th Hong Kong winner, which saw his apprentice claim reduced to five pounds. He closed out the season with 25 wins.
