Recap by phillip woo
Early favourite Cheerful Wongchoy got away with cheap sectionals leading from gate seven and kept on gamely for a maiden win at his eighth start. The downgrade and booking of Zac Purton worked the oracle after returning a pleasing fifth over 1,600m. Smashed late in betting, Winning Diamond stayed on nicely for second after travelling effectively one-out, one-back. It was a season-best effort from gate six with a step up to 1,650m after going OK in one of his first two starts from outside draws. Post-time favourite Windicator Family just missed second after a prominent run on the fence. He's run well for thirds in both starts this term. Our Lucky Glory ran on steadily for fourth after peeling five deep upon straightening following a rails run from midfield. He should find his mark shortly in this grade. Oriental Surprise gradually faded after chasing the slow pace of Cheerful Wongchoy from gate nine. Best of those travelling in the second half of the pack, Whowrotethatsong made headway late for sixth after a rails run from behind midfield. Flash Star came from last to finish next best.
