Recap by phillip woo

Well backed New Power ran on from midfield and one off to just get up to deny World Hero to make it four wins, all over the Valley 1,200m, from 31 starts. It was a good training feat off a 119-day break. World Hero did everything right but get the win after leading 100m out following a one-out, one-back run. A better gate nearly worked the oracle after a ground covering defeat at Sha Tin first up this term. Lightness Of Being just got the head down for third after a one-off trip from behind midfield. It was his best effort from 11 local runs but was fitter for an OK first-up start this term. Lucky McQueen ran on nicely with one wider out to just miss a placing travelling fourth last from gate 10. He's made a good impression in both starts this term. Hayday weakened to finish a distant fifth after dictating the run as expected from gate four. He should come on for the run. I Am Back made good ground late to nearly grab fifth after biding his time third last from gate six. It was an OK effort at his first Valley start. Favourite Loving Vibes was disappointing after getting all favours from gate one.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two : (80) - CHEUNG FAT HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 GLORIOUS DYNASTY (L315) L Hewitson Crowded shortly after the start by LIGHTNESS OF BEING which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

Horse No 2 LUCKY MCQUEEN (K064) M F Poon Near the 150 Metres made slight contact with LIGHTNESS OF BEING due to both runners shifting ground.

Trainer W K Mo confirmed that M F Poon was given the option to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages from its wide barrier.

Horse No 3 VIGOR HAPPINESS (L284) E C W Wong Jumped awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with LOVING VIBES.

Near the 600 Metres lay in and made contact with the running rail.

When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight E C W Wong stated that when ridden with the whip his mount had initially responded to his riding.

He said near the 150 Metres he became slightly unbalanced when his whip failed to connect with the horse.

Jockey Wong was advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to ride with more control than what he had exhibited on this occasion.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 4 WINNING MONEY (J116) L Ferraris L Ferraris stated that after making use of his mount to take up a position outside the lead WINNING MONEY failed to respond to his riding in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 5 WORLD HERO (J413) H Bentley Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 NEW POWER (H325) M L Yeung Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 8 I AM BACK (L061) C Y Ho Shortly after the start was eased when crowded between TACTICAL COMMAND and NEW POWER which shifted out.

Horse No 9 LIGHTNESS OF BEING (K159) Y L Chung Shifted in shortly after the start and made contact with GLORIOUS DYNASTY.

Near the 150 Metres made slight contact with LUCKY MCQUEEN due to both runners shifting ground.

Y L Chung reported that his mount lay in in the Home Straight.

Horse No 10 LOVING VIBES (J359) A Atzeni Bumped on jumping.

When questioned A Atzeni stated that he was given the option of holding the lead if his mount showed sufficient pace to do so but not to make too much use of the horse to hold the front.

He said in the early stages when HAYDAY and WINNING MONEY showed superior pace he elected to obtain a trailing position behind those runners.

He said as his instructions were to endeavour to shift away from the rail in the Home Straight he looked to improve to the outside making the Home Turn but was unable to shift out due to WORLD HERO being positioned to his outside and travelling reasonably well.

He added for this reason he maintained his position behind HAYDAY with a view to improving to the outside of HAYDAY but when WINNING MONEY maintained its position to the outside of HAYDAY he elected to improve to the inside of HAYDAY.

He said as he shifted to the inside a run developed between HAYDAY and WINNING MONEY but as he was committed to the inside he continued to ride his mount along.

He further stated that near the 150 Metres when LOVING VIBES was not responding to his riding he then elected to shift his mount out to follow HAYDAY in an endeavour to ride to his instructions but LOVING VIBES disappointed in its failure to finish the race off in the Home Straight.

Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions were to endeavour to shift away from the running rail and advised that, in his opinion, this was the principal reason for LOVING VIBES not being able to run on in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of LOVING VIBES was considered disappointing.

Before being allowed to race again, LOVING VIBES will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 SMILING CHAMPION (K565) K Teetan Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

Horse No 12 TACTICAL COMMAND (H197) A Badel Shortly after the start was steadied when crowded between I AM BACK and GLORIOUS DYNASTY which was taken in by LIGHTNESS OF BEING.

Over the final 50 Metres could not be ridden out to the finish of the event when it improved between GLORIOUS DYNASTY and LOVING VIBES which was giving ground.
