Recap by phillip woo

Bright Day settled eight lengths off a quick pace in midfield and wide without cover from gate three before coming over the top of them to win going away 60m out. He’s now won three times from 26 starts. He was suited by the pace but was notching a second win from four consecutive runs. Dan Attack got up for second after getting slightly impeded 50m out following a one-off trip from behind midfield. He’s as honest as the day is long over the Valley 1,200m. Outsider Grit Spirit zoomed home late to just snatch third after switching into the open with two wider out at the 150m following a wide trip travelling three from the rear. It was clearly his best run from five local starts following a downgrade. Favourite Loving Vibes lost a placing late after vying for the lead outside Holmes A Court from gate 10. It was a good effort in defeat. Very Grateful just failed to fill a top-four spot after settling four lengths away in fourth from gate two. Glorious Dynasty dashed late down the outside to just win a blanket finish for sixth after making his run second last from gate 11. It was an encouraging effort.

Horse No 5 HOLMES A COURT (J511) B Avdulla B Avdulla reported that his instructions were to go forward and lead.

Horse No 11 LOVING VIBES (J359) A Atzeni When questioned A Atzeni stated that his instructions, with its light weight, were to go forward and attempt to lead if possible.

He said having regard to his instructions he rode his mount along in the early stages in an endeavour to cross runners to his inside.

He said when HOLMES A COURT held its position to his inside he then commenced to attempt to steady his mount to race outside of HOLMES A COURT.

He added that near the 500 Metres when LOVING VIBES continued to race keenly it established a small margin in advance of HOLMES A COURT and then in the Home Straight LOVING VIBES finished the race off reasonably well considering the manner in which it raced throughout the early stages.

Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions issued and stated that as the horse does have a respiratory issue it performs best when not overly restrained.
