Recap by phillip woo

Early favourite Packing Glory tracked the speed and just reeled in first-time starter Ace Eagle for a second win from nine starts. The move to a 10lb claimer worked the oracle after a second following a downgrade last start. Jumping favourite, Ace Eagle was still cuddled in front leading by three lengths at the 200m but was on his tippy toes 50m out. It was good run on debut. Heavily backed Gutsy Bravo wove a run through the centre to grab third after making his run at the back from gate 14. He's given a decent shout both times over 1,200m from three starts. Forerunner ran on nicely down the outside for fourth after making his run towards the rear from gate four.

Horse No 1 PACKING GLORY (L013) H Y Yuen Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 FORERUNNER (G465) A Badel Shifted out on jumping and made contact with GOLDENTRONICMIGHTY.

Horse No 3 BEAUTY GLORY (E459) Y L Chung Y L Chung stated that he was instructed to settle the horse where comfortable.

He said in the early stages his mount did not show early speed and as a result settled towards the rear of the field.

Trainer A S Cruz confirmed the instructions issued.

Horse No 4 LUCKY TWENTY (K392) E Brown Jumped awkwardly.

Shortly after the start shifted in and away from JUSTIFYING and was steadied to avoid ACE EAGLE.

Horse No 5 ACE EAGLE (L341) Z Purton Bumped shortly after the start.

When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight Z Purton stated that his mount was able to show good pace in the early stages to lead the event.

He said after entering the Home Straight his mount naturally improved away from the field and established a break on other runners.

He said as he approached the 200 Metres he was concerned that the horse was commencing to peak on its run and for this reason he held the horse together whilst continuing to encourage it until near the 200 Metres.

He added after passing the 200 Metres he then placed his mount under full pressure where it responded to his riding, however, over the concluding stages was unable to hold off the eventual winer PACKING GLORY.

After considering his explanation the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Purton were reasonable in the circumstances.

Sent for sampling post-race.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
