Recap by phillip woo

Romantic Fantasy had a patient ride fourth last but came with a sustained run near the outside to just beat Super Goldendragon for a second win from 26 starts. Super Goldendragon just missed after leading 150m out following a wide without cover trip travelling midfield from gate 12. He proved an upset win last start over the Valley 2,200m was not a fluke. Early favourite Absolute Honour stayed on a distant third after rushing to the lead near the 300m following a one-off trip from better than midfield. It was another good run carrying 7lb more following a win last start over a shorter trip. Kyrus Treasure ran on well for fourth after making his run five back on the fence from gate three. It was one of his better efforts. Packing Fighter found a few too smart after briefly leading near the 300m slotting third and one off the fence with cover from gate 14.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight : (701) - PORT SHELTER HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1800Meters

Horse No 1 PACKING FIGHTER (L112) A Atzeni Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 FLUORESCENCE (L124) M Chadwick For a short distance near the 300 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when being shifted to the outside of KINGLY DEMEANOR.

M Chadwick stated that the instructions were to go forward.

Trainer K L Man confirmed the instructions and said with blinkers being reapplied he asked Jockey Chadwick to take up a forward position as it was felt it was advantageous to do so on the "Yielding" track.

Horse No 4 VERMILION TEMPEST (L093) J Moreira J Moreira stated that his mount failed to travel throughout the event and, in his opinion, was not comfortable on the "Yielding" track conditions.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 STATE SECURITY (L263) H Bentley Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

Horse No 7 SUPER GOLDENDRAGON (K458) K C Leung Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 10 STAR BROSE (J463) B Avdulla From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Near the 300 Metres was steadied when disappointed for clear running between KYRUS TREASURE and FLUORESCENCE which shifted out to improve.

Horse No 13 FORTUNE KINGO (K457) H T Mo H T Mo stated that the intention was to hold an on-pace position.

He said FORTUNE KINGO jumped awkwardly and then did not show sufficient pace in the early stages to hold a more forward position.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 14 ROMANTIC FANTASY (H168) A Badel The Stewards conducted an inquiry into Jockey A Badel's right arm, which was holding the whip, extending out towards the second placegetter SUPER GOLDENDRAGON approaching the finish of the race.

A Badel stated that after riding his mount out in his usual manner in the Home Straight, over the concluding stages when racing close to SUPER GOLDENDRAGON, he was restricted in being able to use his whip due to the close proximity to SUPER GOLDENDRAGON.

He said as a result approaching the finish of the event and in accordance with his riding style he pushed his mount which resulted in him shifting his weight forward and then losing his balance slightly and in his right hand holding the whip extending away from his body and towards SUPER GOLDENDRAGON as the horses approached the finish.

Jockey K C Leung, rider of SUPER GOLDENDRAGON, stated that as his focus was on riding his mount out vigorously to the finish he did not feel any contact on his body nor was he aware if the whip of Jockey Badel had made contact with his horse.

After considering all the evidence including various patrol angles that were available to the Stewards, they accepted the explanation of Jockey Badel, however, he was advised that in similar circumstances he must ride with more care to ensure that his arm holding the whip is not extending away from his body so as to avoid any contact with any rider or horse.

Sent for sampling post-race.
