Recap by phillip woo

Flashing Fighter tracked the speed before taking control 250m out and holding off late-fancied favourite Spicy Standard for the win. The 18lb swing in the weights was the difference in the end but the winner clearly has a bright future. Spicy Standard stayed on very well for second after facing the breeze three wide on the speed from gate 11. He's a winner waiting to happen. Outsider Gorgeous Victory dashed late down the outside for third after making his run third last from gate eight. It was his best effort from four starts with a step back to 1,200m. Call Me Sparkle stayed on a non-threatening fourth after a wide trip with cover from better than midfield. It was a good run carrying 6lb more following a debut win. Conrad Patch just held his ground after a handy run one off the fence. He's found things harder in back-to-back runs carrying 5lb more. Victor The Rapid stayed on next best after a wide trip with cover trip travelling midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five : (598) - HART HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 SPICY STANDARD (J520) A Atzeni Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 CALL ME SPARKLE (K571) M L Yeung Making the Home Turn lay out when taken wider by CONRAD PATCH which shifted out.

Horse No 5 FLASHING FIGHTER (L281) H Y Yuen Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 JUBILANT STAR (K410) Z Purton When questioned regarding his riding Z Purton stated that he had expected to settle back in the field from the outside barrier and had been instructed to endeavour to take runs to the inside as connections felt that it had been advantageous to race in this position having regard to the racing pattern today.

He said as a consequence after settling back in the field he elected to remain racing behind GORGEOUS VICTORY and SUPREME VOYAGER rather than shifting out on the Home Turn to start a forward move.

He said after improving to the inside of CHATER FLASH near the 400 Metres he endeavoured to secure clear running between CHATER FLASH and SMILING CHAMPION.

He added that as he commenced to improve between those two runners CHATER FLASH shifted in slightly and SMILING CHAMPION lay out which resulted in the run becoming too tight to improve into and as a consequence JUBILANT STAR was held up for clear running between the 300 Metres and the 150 Metres where he then shifted to the outside of CHATER FLASH to obtain clear running.

Trainer D J Hall confirmed the instructions and stated he issued those instructions as he was of the opinion that it would be advantageous to improve close to the rail.

Noted to have lost its left hind plate after the race.

Horse No 7 SMILING CHAMPION (K565) J Orman Lay out in the early stages of the Home Straight.

J Orman confirmed that from an inside barrier he was instructed to make use of that barrier and hold a more forward position than it did at its first race start.

Horse No 8 SUPREME VOYAGER (L043) B Avdulla Shortly after the start was steadied when crowded between VICTOR THE RAPID and GORGEOUS VICTORY which shifted out.

SUPREME VOYAGER was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages from a wide barrier.

Horse No 9 CHATER FLASH (L082) L Ferraris Shortly after the start got its head up, shifted out and made contact with FULL OF LAUGHTER.

Throughout the early and middle stages raced ungenerously and near the 1000 Metres got its head up when being steadied to avoid CONRAD PATCH.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, CHATER FLASH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 10 GORGEOUS VICTORY (L087) Y L Chung Shifted in shortly after the start, was bumped and became unbalanced.

Horse No 11 FULL OF LAUGHTER (L017) R Kingscote Shortly after the start was checked when crowded between GORGEOUS VICTORY which shifted in slightly and CHATER FLASH which got its head up and shifted out despite the efforts of its rider.

Horse No 12 RUBY SAILING (H347) P N Wong Apprentice P N Wong stated that after leading the event her mount gave ground in the Home Straight and made a respiratory noise.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer" which had previously been reported.
