Recap by phillip woo

Armor Golden Eagle was perfectly rated in front from gate six and kept finding for a first local win at his sixth start. The combination of a change in tactics and switch to the Valley worked the oracle. Fantastic Fun was closing with every stride to just miss after a box-seat run. He appreciated a return to the level of two earlier Valley 1,650m wins. Punted late The Lion King ran on steadily to just get the head down for third over Aestheticism without threatening the top two after a prominent run. It was his best effort from 10 local runs. Aestheticism ran on well to just miss a placing after a rails run from midfield. It was his best run from 10 starts but he is a well-rated runner. Mighty Steed was yielding ground 150m out after a speed-tracking run from gate seven. He ran below par despite a return to the level of an earlier win and second over yesterday's Valley 1,650m. Specked late Vermilion Tempest ran on late near the inside without ever looking a threat after making his run at the rear from gate 12. It wasn't a bad effort. Shooting To Top stayed on all right down the outside after a wide and without cover trip from behind midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two : (527) - AZALEA HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 MIGHTY STEED (J384) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 ARMOR GOLDEN EAGLE (K566) A Atzeni Bumped shortly after the start.

A Atzeni stated that his instructions were to go forward and obtain cover.

He said in the early stages he expected MIGHTY STEED (Z Purton) to continue forward and cross his mount but when Jockey Purton maintained his position to the outside of ARMOR GOLDEN EAGLE he was obliged to continue forward to ensure that he crossed THE LION KING.

He said this resulted in ARMOR GOLDEN EAGLE racing in a more forward position than intended.

Trainer M Newnham stated that whilst he had asked for the horse to be ridden in a more forward position he had expected MIGHTY STEED to lead the event and ARMOR GOLDEN EAGLE to be positioned behind that runner.

He said he was surprised to see the horse lead tonight's event.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 COLOURFUL GAN (L054) J Orman Jumped awkwardly.

J Orman stated that from a wide barrier he was instructed to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages.

He added, in his opinion, the horse did not appreciate the "Good to Firm" track conditions.

Trainer D J Whyte confirmed the instructions and stated those instructions were issued as the horse raced in a disappointing manner at its most recent start when it took up a forward position.

Horse No 4 FANTASTIC FUN (J364) H Bowman Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 VERMILION TEMPEST (L093) B Avdulla From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 7 INNO SUPER (K319) C L Chau C L Chau stated that he was instructed not to make use of the horse in the early stages and as a result from its wide barrier his mount settled behind midfield.

He said in the Home Straight INNO SUPER found it difficult to make up ground from this position.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 8 SHOOTING TO TOP (L039) M F Poon Lay out on the Home Turn.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 9 THE LION KING (K265) D B McMonagle Shortly after the start shifted out and made contact with ARMOR GOLDEN EAGLE.

Near the 1400 Metres was eased to avoid ARMOR GOLDEN EAGLE which was taken in by MIGHTY STEED (Z Purton).

Z Purton was advised to exercise more care.

Horse No 10 REGROWTH WINNER (L140) M L Yeung Jumped awkwardly.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of REGROWTH WINNER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, REGROWTH WINNER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 11 LESLIE (E471) K Teetan From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Near the 400 Metres was severely checked when crowded by LUCKY FIELD (Y L Chung) which shifted in abruptly whilst being ridden along.

As the Stewards were satisfied that Jockey Chung had attempted to immediately react to prevent his mount from shifting in, no action was taken.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 12 LUCKY FIELD (K292) Y L Chung Making the Home Turn shifted in abruptly when being corrected by its rider.

LUCKY FIELD then continued to lay in under pressure in the Home Straight.

A warning was placed on the racing manners of the horse.

Y L Chung was severely reprimanded for using the whip on a horse which was clearly out of contention.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer" which had previously been reported.
