Recap by phillip woo

Outsider Run Run Smart dictated the run from gate six and kept finding after dictating the run from gate six to notch a second win this season at his 17th time of asking. It was a vastly-improved effort after a tiring 10th at his first 1,400m run in October. Punted late Amazing Duck stayed on nicely for second after chasing the winner one off from gate two. He was able to back up placings in two of three prior starts over 1,600m. Always Fluke ran on steadily for third after a one-off trip from better than midfield. He was able to back up a second on his season debut 13 days ago in Class Five. Nyx Gluck ran on late through the centre for fourth without threatening the first three after straightening four from the rear. It was another honest effort. Super Love had his chance after a boxseat run but only plodded over the last 100m carrying top weight. Excellent Boy made noticeable ground late after making his run behind midfield on the fence.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight : (441) - TVB SCOOP HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1400Meters

Horse No 2 NYX GLUCK (K438) H Bowman Near the 400 Metres was shifted to the outside of THE ALL ROUNDER to obtain clear running and made contact with GENIUS BABY.

Horse No 3 STARRY SHOW (L074) J Orman Jumped only fairly.

J Orman advised that he had been instructed to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages to attempt to have the horse finish its race off as it had been racing in a disappointing manner at its previous race starts.

He said shortly after the start he endeavoured to steady his mount to obtain a position with cover.

He added when racing tight to the inside of GENIUS BABY (K Teetan), STARRY SHOW got its head up when he was obliged to ease his mount.

K Teetan was advised to exercise more care.

Again near the 1200 Metres got its head up and refused to settle when racing behind ALWAYS FLUKE.

Horse No 4 SOLID CAR (K058) Z Purton Jumped awkwardly.

Raced keenly in the middle stages.

Z Purton stated that the horse may not have run out a strong 1400 Metres.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea and also found the horse to have a respiratory condition which requires further assessment.

Before being allowed to race again, SOLID CAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 GENIUS BABY (K132) K Teetan Bumped near the 400 Metres.

K Teetan reported that his mount may not have run out the 1400 Metres of today's race.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 RUN RUN SMART (K080) K C Leung Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 MULTISUPERSTAR (L163) Y L Chung Noted to have blood in the mouth on arrival at the Start, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

When questioned Y L Chung stated that the instructions were to settle the horse back in the field from its wide barrier and to ensure that he improved to the outside in the Home Straight as MULTISUPERSTAR had been held up at its first race start when positioned to the inside.

He said after following STARRY SHOW throughout the event he elected to shift to that runner's outside to comply with those instructions, however, when STARRY SHOW shifted out he was held up for clear running behind that horse near the 400 Metres.

He added having regard to his instructions he persisted for a run to the outside of STARRY SHOW and after being held up between the 400 Metres and the 300 Metres he endeavoured to improve between STARRY SHOW and THE ALL ROUNDER, however, MULTISUPERSTAR lay out and was unable to proceed into that run.

He said as a result MULTISUPERSTAR then had difficulty obtaining clear running until near the 100 Metres when he shifted to the inside of STARRY SHOW.

When questioned as to whether there was an opportunity to shift to the inside of STARRY SHOW near the 400 Metres, Y L Cheung stated that as his instructions were to come to the outside he had not observed this run to be available and therefore did not contemplate taking that position.

After considering his explanation the Stewards advised Jockey Chung that whilst he believed his instructions were to come to the outside he should, wherever possible, ensure that he obtains the first run that becomes available, particularly in circumstances when he is experiencing difficulty in obtaining clear running.

Horse No 8 LEATHER GOODS (K401) E C W Wong Apprentice E C W Wong reported that the intention was to hold a midfield position.

He said when his mount was caught wide in the early stages he elected to go forward but was unable to cross runners to his inside which resulted in LEATHER GOODS racing wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

He added making the Home Turn LEATHER GOODS dipped its head on a number of occasions and when he was concerned there was something amiss with it he eased it down in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of LEATHER GOODS was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, LEATHER GOODS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 9 EXCELLENT BOY (K435) M L Yeung Slow to begin.

Horse No 10 AMAZING DUCK (H392) R Kingscote Jumped only fairly.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 DECISION LINK (K416) C Y Ho C Y Ho reported that his mount travelled satisfactorily behind midfield in the early stages.

He said making the turn after the 900 Metres DECISION LINK came under pressure and as a result drifted back in the field.

He added in the Home Straight DECISION LINK finished the race off only fairly.

Horse No 12 GASTRONOMIQUE (K388) A Atzeni Jumped only fairly.

From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Between the 450 Metres and the 350 Metres was held up for clear running.

After obtaining clear running after the 350 Metres again had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 200 Metres when held up behind NYX GLUCK.

Horse No 13 THE ALL ROUNDER (K402) A Badel Raced keenly in the middle stages.

Horse No 14 ALWAYS FLUKE (H252) H Bentley Jumped only fairly.
