Race Six : (430) - THE CONSENSUS CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 3 - 1650Meters
Horse No 1 FLYING FORTRESS (J445) H Bentley When questioned H Bentley explained that over the concluding stages his mount did not feel comfortable in its action and as he was concerned with the horse's welfare he elected not to ride it out over the concluding stages.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse's trachea.
Given the manner in which the horse weakened over the concluding stages, the Stewards ruled that FLYING FORTRESS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
Horse No 2 MAX QUE (J514) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 4 A AMERIC TE SPECSO (H037) D B McMonagle Slowly away.
Horse No 5 MISTER DAPPER (H376) B Avdulla Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 6 PERFECT TEAM (H120) E C W Wong Jumped only fairly and then was crowded for room between KEMPES and MAX QUE which was taken in by WITHALLMYFAITH before being straightened by its rider.
Horse No 8 FIVEFORTWO (K381) L Ferraris From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 9 OUTGATE (H113) Y L Chung Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event and weakened in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 10 FANTASTIC FUN (J364) K Teetan After passing the 200 Metres was disappointed for clear running between FLYING FORTRESS and MISTER DAPPER until after passing the 100 Metres.
Horse No 12 ROMANTIC LAOS (G476) M F Poon From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Mister Dapper tracked the speed from gate nine and just got up in the final few strides for a fifth win from 28 starts. It was clearly his best run to date from three starts over the Valley 1,650m. Favourite Max Que was closing with every stride to just miss after making his run one-off travelling midfield. It was another solid effort carrying 12lb more. Withallmyfaith was swamped in the final few metres after dictating the pace from gate seven. The switch to the Valley nearly worked the oracle after notching placings in two of three prior starts. Fivefortwo came from last and widest out from gate 12 to nearly fill a placing. It was a huge run. Fantastic Fun ran on steadily for fifth without threatening the top four after getting steadied by the winner 100m out following a rails run from midfield. It was an OK effort. Telecom Fighters just held his run after a prominent run on the fence. The nine-year-old is beyond his better days. Kempes ran on without threatening after a rails run from behind midfield. Romantic Laos made ground late with one wider out after biding his time five back and one off the fence.
