Recap by phillip woo

Ragga Bomb travelled second, about six lengths off runaway leader Ka Ying Glory before rushing to the front 200m out and proving much too good for a first win at his 12th local start. Take Action ran on nicely for second after a one-off trip from behind midfield. It was another honest performance over the Valley 1,650m. Firming favourite Ace War stayed on a non-threatening third after a prominent run on the fence. He had no excuse but has placed in his past three starts. California Bay ran on steadily for fourth after a one-off trip from midfield. It was an improved effort at his second attempt over the Valley 1,650m. Ka Ying Glory was stopping 100m out after trying to run them ragged in front from gate eight. It was his best effort from four starts across both tracks this term. Matsu Victor plugged on without threatening after a rails run from midfield. He's struggling to recapture top form. The Azure came from last through the centre to finish next best. Setanta never landed a blow after making his run five back along the inside. He failed to back up placings in his past two starts.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five : (389) - JAFFE HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 CELTIC TIMES (G230) C Y Ho Near the 550 Metres was momentarily crowded by TO INFINITY which lay in.

Horse No 2 THE AZURE (J227) M Guyon When questioned M Guyon stated that his mount jumped only fairly and then shortly after was checked when crowded between CELTIC TIMES and CALIFORNIA BAY which shifted out and away from KA YING GLORY which resulted in his mount settling back in the field.

He said making the Home Turn he was reluctant to make a wide run as he felt it would be difficult to make up ground due to the early and middle stages being run inside of standard time.

He said as a result he elected to remain racing behind TO INFINITY and to shift to that runner's inside where it obtained clear running approaching the 300 Metres.

He added in the Home Straight THE AZURE lay in and near the 150 Metres became awkwardly placed close to GENERAL REDWOOD when that runner shifted out slightly.

He said after improving to the outside of GENERAL REDWOOD leaving the 50 Metres he was obliged to steady and shift to the outside of CALIFORNIA BAY when that runner commenced to give ground.

Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of M Guyon, 7th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ensure that he fully rides his mounts out to the finish of the race.

Horse No 3 TO INFINITY (G277) D B McMonagle Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 4 CALIFORNIA BAY (K364) M Chadwick Shifted out shortly after the start and bumped THE AZURE.

Horse No 5 RAGGA BOMB (K162) H Bowman Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 GENERAL REDWOOD (L102) Y L Chung Bumped shortly after the start.

Near the 1400 Metres was steadied when crowded by KA YING GLORY (L Ferraris) which shifted in when not clear.

L Ferraris was severely reprimanded.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 KA YING GLORY (K247) L Ferraris When questioned L Ferraris stated that the instructions were to lead the event.

He said after crossing to the front approaching the first turn he allowed KA YING GLORY to continue to stride along as he was concerned if he applied too much pressure to the horse it would hang out as it did at its last start.

He said after passing the 1100 Metres he applied some pressure to the horse, however, it commenced to lay out and therefore he was reluctant to restrain the horse and allowed it to continue to stride along.

He said although he was aware the pace he was setting was inside of standard time he felt it was in the best interests of the horse's chances in the race not to restrain it to avoid it hanging out.

Trainer D A Hayes confirmed the instructions were to lead and as the horse hung out at its previous race start to not overly restrain KA YING GLORY to allow it to settle comfortably.

He said whilst he issued these instructions he was of the opinion that Jockey Ferraris could have made a greater effort to set a more sustainable pace during the middle stages of the event.

After considering the evidence the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Ferraris were reasonable in the circumstances.

Horse No 8 LUCK SMILES (K530) J Orman Bumped on jumping.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 10 TAKE ACTION (J098) B Avdulla Jumped awkwardly.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 ACE WAR (J509) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 SETANTA (G095) A Atzeni Jumped only fairly and then bumped with GENERAL REDWOOD.

A Atzeni stated that his mount was obliged to race tight to the inside of TAKE ACTION making the Home Turn and in the Home Straight did not finish the race off when placed under pressure.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
