Race Eleven : (364) - TENNIS 1600M HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1600Meters
Horse No 1 PATCH OF COSMO (J357) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 2 POPE CODY (K313) J Orman Over the concluding stages made contact with ENDUED due to both runners shifting ground.
Horse No 4 LOCH TAY (K356) R Kingscote Shifted in at the start, was bumped and became unbalanced.
Hung in in the Home Straight.
Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No 5 AERODYNAMICS (K564) A Atzeni Lay out over the final 100 Metres.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 6 KING LOTUS (K186) L Hewitson When questioned L Hewitson stated that the instructions from the outside barrier were to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages.
He said those instructions were issued as connections felt the horse had lacked concentration after improving to the front in the early stages of the Home Straight at its previous race starts.
He said as a consequence from the outside barrier he settled back in the field.
When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight and the reasons he remained racing on the rail where he had shifted away from the rail in the earlier races, L Hewitson stated that part of the instructions were to save ground making the Home Turn and to shift to the outside in the Home Straight.
He added after improving to the inside of SHAMZ near the 400 Metres he then was unable to shift out when he had LOCH TAY positioned to his outside and as a result he elected to continue forward to the inside of LUCKY CANDY.
He said when KING LOTUS did not improve sufficiently to clear LUCKY CANDY, he was obliged to remain racing on the rail for the remainder of the event.
Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions and the reasons why those instructions were issued.
He added whilst his preference was for KING LOTUS to make a run in the Home Straight away from the rail he was advised by Jockey Hewitson there was no option to comply with that part of the instructions.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 9 STORMY GROVE (K478) H Bentley H Bentley reported that his mount hung out making the Home Turn and as a consequence proved difficult to ride in the Home Straight.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 10 VIOLET STAR (L149) B Avdulla Jumped only fairly and then was crowded between SHAMZ and LOCH TAY which shifted in.
Held up for clear running between the 400 Metres and the 300 Metres.
Noted to have sustained an abrasion to its left front leg.
Horse No 11 ENDUED (K033) M Guyon From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Over the concluding stages made contact with POPE CODY due to both runners shifting ground.
Horse No 12 FIVEFORTWO (K381) C Y Ho A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 13 LUCKY CANDY (L041) K C Leung Jumped only fairly.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GENERAL:

After the running of Race 5, the track classification was officially changed from "Good" to "Good to Firm" This change in the opinion of the Stewards should be recorded as being retrospective.
As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 5 being run on a track rated "Good to Firm"

Patch Of Cosmo travelled one off in midfield carrying top weight and just got up in the concluding stages for a fifth win from 12 starts. It was a great training feat at his first start in 315 days following a tendon injury. Aerodynamics found one just too good after leading 150m out following a handy run. He appreciated the step up to 1,600m after a promising fifth on his local debut over 1,200m. Pope Cody dashed late for third after making his run five back and one off the fence. It was another honest performance over the 1,600m this term. Favourite Stormy Grove stayed on well to win a blanket finish for fourth after a wide trip with cover from better than midfield. It was another good run with a step up to 1,600m after a near win eight days ago over 1,400m. Violet Star ran on well for fifth after a rails run from behind midfield. It was an encouraging run on his local debut.
