Recap by phillip woo

Second favourite Winning Money worked hard early to cross from barrier 12 and track the speed but fought on tenaciously to collar the leader late and hang on for a first win at start 11. It was a deserved win after he was placed on his past three starts and overcame serious injuries suffered in 2024. Backed late to start favourite, Dan Attack settled third last after a modest start and rattled home in the straight to fall narrowly short in second. He continues to race in top form this campaign. Great Spirit was trapped three wide behind midfield before eventually slotting in one off near the 600m and running on late down the centre of the track to finish a close third. It was a brave effort. Same To You was reined back into a detached last soon after the start and after turning for home last and widest of all, he charged home into a never-nearer fourth. It was a huge run after a change of tactics from his last start. Sky Cap set ferocious fractions in a clear lead and after being collared 50m from home was swallowed up late for fifth. Rewarding Buddy settled at the head of midfield and stuck on willingingly up the rail for sixth on the inside.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six : (350) - MONACO HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 FREE PONY (K229) J Orman Near the 350 Metres was steadied when briefly crowded by GREAT SPIRIT which shifted in slightly.

Horse No 2 SKY CAP (K125) E C W Wong When questioned Apprentice E C W Wong stated that with blinkers being applied for the first time he was instructed to lead the event.

He said as SKY CAP does not possess fast early pace he was obliged to make use of his mount in the early stages to comply with his instructions to cross runners to his inside.

He said after entering the Back Straight SKY CAP commenced to race keenly and he was unable to restrain his mount any further to set a more sustainable pace which resulted in SKY CAP racing inside of standard time throughout the early and middle stages of the event.

When questioned regarding placing his mount under pressure from the 350 Metres Apprentice Wong stated that as SKY CAP can be one-paced and requires some time to respond to his riding he felt it was the appropriate time to place the horse under pressure despite the fact that it had run inside of standard time throughout the early and middle stages.

Horse No 3 LEATHER GOODS (K401) C L Chau A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 5 SKY PHOENIX (K404) K Teetan SKY PHOENIX, which had been fractious in the starting gates, jumped very awkwardly and lost ground.

As a result K Teetan's right foot shifted in the stirrup which required him having to reposition his foot soon after.

The barrier manners of SKY PHOENIX were considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, SKY PHOENIX will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.

Near the 450 Metres became unbalanced when racing tight to the inside of DAN ATTACK.

Horse No 6 AWESOME TREASURE (E435) L Hewitson L Hewitson stated that when under pressure in the Home Straight his mount did not respond and when he had concerns there may be something amiss with it he did not ride it out over the final 200 Metres.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Before being allowed to race again, AWESOME TREASURE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 8 DAN ATTACK (H317) H Bowman H Bowman stated that the intention was to hold a forward position.

He said when DAN ATTACK jumped only fairly and the early stages of the event were run inside of standard time he elected to shift his mount across behind runners in the early stages and as a result settled further back in the field.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 10 SAME TO YOU (H057) A Badel Jumped only fairly.

A Badel advised that from a wide barrier he was instructed to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages with the expected fast pace of the event.

Horse No 11 WINNING MONEY (J116) Z Purton Making the first turn ran wide when racing keenly.

Sent for sampling post-race.
