Recap by phillip woo

Well backed Stormi stole the race after a perfectly-executed ride in front under Jerry Chau for a first win at his 16th local start. He was able to build on a speed-tracking second two runs ago. Punted late Vivacious Win ran on nicely to just grab second after a rails run from midfield. He did run well for fourth at his only Valley 1,650m run two starts ago. Early favourite California Moxie stormed home late through the centre to make it close for second after biding his time one from the rear from gate eight. It was a solid run carrying 10lb more following a win. Can't Go Wong was swamped late for a placing after getting all favours after a prominent run. It was another honest performance. Take Action made ground along the inside for fifth after a rails run from just worse than midfield following interference off the start. General Redwood was on his tippy toes 100m out following a speed-tracking run from gate 11. It was a better effort. Quick Contribution ran on steadily without threatening after a one-off trip from midfield. Post-time favourite Bull Attitude never really got into the act after making settling back.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five : (329) - THE HONG KONG CLUB CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 CALIFORNIA MOXIE (J131) H Bowman Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 2 NEARLY FINE (E430) E C W Wong A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 3 FIGHTING MACHINE (J015) M Guyon M Guyon stated that the instructions were to hold a midfield position.

He said although the pace of the event was run outside of standard time throughout the middle stages he was content to allow the horse to remain racing wide and without cover as he felt this would provide the horse with the best opportunity to finish the race off.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to have a heart condition which required further assessment.

Horse No 4 GENERAL REDWOOD (L102) Y L Chung Bumped near the 300 Metres.

Horse No 5 BULL ATTITUDE (K305) Z Purton Raced keenly in the middle stages.

Z Purton could offer no explanation for the horse's disappointing performance.

Trainer M Newnham stated that he expected the horse to hold a midfield position but due to the early and middle stages being run outside of standard time BULL ATTITUDE raced keenly and as a consequence found it difficult to make up ground in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 CAN'T GO WONG (H087) K C Leung On jumping shifted out and away from SUPERB GUY and made heavy contact with QUICK CONTRIBUTION.

Horse No 7 TAKE ACTION (J098) B Avdulla Bumped heavily on jumping.

After travelling a short distance was steadied when crowded between BULL ATTITUDE and VIVACIOUS WIN which was taken out by QUICK CONTRIBUTION.

For a short distance near the 250 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when positioned behind SUPERB GUY.

Near the 150 Metres raced tight to the inside of SUPERB GUY.

Horse No 8 UP WITH CHARM (K139) C Y Ho Raced keenly in the middle stages and for some distance near the 800 Metres was steadied away from BULL ATTITUDE.

C Y Ho advised that from a wide barrier he was instructed to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages to ensure it ran out the 1650 Metres of tonight's race.

Trainer K L Man confirmed the instructions and said he issued those instructions as UP WITH CHARM did not finish the race off when it led at its last race start on 17 December 2025.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 9 SUPERB GUY (K323) J Orman Near the 300 Metres made contact with GENERAL REDWOOD when attempting to shift to the outside of STORMI to obtain clear running.

J Orman reported that his mount travelled reasonably well during the early and middle stages but in the Home Straight did not respond to his riding and was disappointing.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 10 QUICK CONTRIBUTION (K112) A Atzeni On jumping was bumped heavily by CAN'T GO WONG which shifted out and shortly after was then crowded between CAN'T GO WONG and VIVACIOUS WIN which shifted in after making heavy contact with TAKE ACTION.

Horse No 11 STORMI (K084) C L Chau Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 VIVACIOUS WIN (K223) K Teetan On jumping shifted out, made heavy contact with TAKE ACTION and became badly unbalanced.
