Recap by phillip woo

Positive Smile had a rails run from midfield and after hitting he lead 280m out, was too good for a first win at his 15th local start. Flow Water Flow made good ground late with one wider out at the 250m for second after a patient ride at the rear. He's a winner in waiting with seconds in each of his three starts across both tracks. Thumped to start favourite Mr Cool found a couple too smart after a with and with cover run from behind midfield. it was another honest run on this surface. Fight Time just got the head down for fourth after a wide without cover trip traveling behind midfield from gate nine. It was a better effort after a pair of out-of-character runs. Diriya just lost fourth prize money late after a handy run one off the fence from gate 12. He's still a work in progress but has now kept on for minor cheques in four of six starts.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six : (319) - THE PO LEUNG KUK CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 4 - 1400Meters

Horse No 1 LUCKY XANDER (K407) M F Poon Shifted out on jumping and bumped INVICTUS DRAGON.

For some distance near the 1000 Metres raced keenly when attempting to obtain cover behind FIGHT TIME.

Horse No 2 MR COOL (K184) Z Purton Bumped shortly after the start.

Briefly held up on the Home Turn.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 FLOW WATER FLOW (K562) H Bowman When questioned regarding his riding H Bowman stated that the intention was to hold a handy position behind the leaders from a favourable barrier and with the horse stepping up to 1400 Metres.

He said FLOW WATER FLOW jumped reasonably well but in the early stages was positioned to the inside of DASHING MAURISON which was being ridden hard to hold a more forward position.

He said when the pace of the event was being run inside of standard time he would have had to make use of his mount in the early stages to hold a more forward position and as he was concerned this would result in FLOW WATER FLOW racing keenly, particularly having regard to its inexperience and having its first race start at Sha Tin, he elected to allow DASHING MAURISON to cross his mount near the 1100 Metres.

He said whilst he had not expected this would result in his mount settling at the rear of the field he felt this was the best option for the horse to allow it to race where comfortable and have a good opportunity to finish the race off in the Home Straight.

He added throughout the middle stages FLOW WATER FLOW travelled well and after shifting to the outside upon entering the Home Straight the horse ran on well under riding.

Trainer J Size stated that whilst he had expected FLOW WATER FLOW to hold a more forward position, given the horse is lightly raced and does not have an established racing pattern he was comfortable with Jockey Bowman's decision to allow the horse to settle towards the rear of the field.

After considering his explanation and taking into account the sectional times of the event and the relative inexperience of the horse, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Bowman were reasonable in the circumstances.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 EXCELLENT BOY (K435) E C W Wong A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 LUCK SMILES (K530) J Orman Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the Home Straight and was held up for clear running over the final 100 Metres behind INVICTUS DRAGON.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 8 MADE FOR LIFE (L005) B Avdulla Jumped awkwardly.

Near the 450 Metres was bumped by POSITIVE SMILE (M L Yeung) when that runner shifted to the outside of INVICTUS DRAGON to obtain clear running.

As a result MADE FOR LIFE became unbalanced, shifted out and made contact with FIGHT TIME.

M L Yeung was advised to exercise more care.

B Avdulla reported that the instructions were to go forward.

He said when his mount jumped awkwardly it did not show sufficient early speed to obtain a more forward position and in the Home Straight did not respond to his riding.

He added, in his view, the horse may be better suited by being ridden in a more conservative manner in the early stages.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 9 VIVA FIRECRACKER (L065) A Atzeni Jumped awkwardly.

Horse No 10 INVICTUS DRAGON (K318) C Y Ho Bumped on jumping.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 11 POSITIVE SMILE (J467) M L Yeung Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 DASHING MAURISON (K374) R Kingscote Bumped shortly after the start.

Horse No 13 DIRIYA (K282) M Guyon Between the 450 Metres and the 300 Metres was held up for clear running.

Horse No 14 FIGHT TIME (H409) K Teetan Near the 450 Metres was hampered when bumped by MADE FOR LIFE.

Raced very wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
