Recap by phillip woo

Sight Hermoso travelled just wores than midfield and easily reeled in Lahore 50m out on the stands side for a second win from four starts. It was a solid effort carrying top weight. Lahore found one too good after moving to the lead 350m sitting near the front on the grandstand side from gate 10. He appreciated a return to the straight 1,000m where he had placed third in three of four previous occasions. Live Wire stayed on well for third after a handy run near the stands side from gate 14. It was an encouraging debut performance. Comet Radiance ran on steadily for fourth after settling midfield in the centre of the track. It was a positive debut effort. Conspirator made a good deal of ground late through the centre for fifth after making his run third last from gate three.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two : (315) - TSAM CHUK WAN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1000Meters

Horse No 1 SIGHT HERMOSO (L003) B Avdulla Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 TURQUOISE VELOCITY (K533) M L Yeung On jumping made heavy contact with LUCKY SECRET and became unbalanced.

M L Yeung stated that his mount became stirred up behind the starting gates due to the delay when TOP MAESTRO was withdrawn.

He said his mount travelled only fairly during the race and under its top weight of 135 lbs found it difficult to finish the race off when under pressure in the Home Straight.

Trainer K W Lui stated that the horse had pleased him leading into the race and concurred with the views of Jockey Yeung that the pre-race manners of the horse had affected its performance.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of TURQUOISE VELOCITY, a last start winner, was considered disappointing.

Before being allowed to race again, TURQUOISE VELOCITY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 JUSTIFYING (K027) H Bowman H Bowman stated that his mount travelled satisfactorily throughout the early stages.

He said when he asked the horse for an effort leaving the 200 Metres it lay in and did not finish the race off thereafter.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 4 ZETA HEDGE (K295) E C W Wong Jumped awkwardly.

Apprentice E C W Wong reported that his mount raced greenly throughout the event and changed stride on a number of occasions before giving ground in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 LIVE WIRE (L142) Z Purton Over the concluding stages had difficulty obtaining clear running when being shifted to the inside of LAHORE.

When questioned regarding his riding from near the 300 Metres Z Purton stated that after being crossed by LAHORE in the early stages he elected to shift to that runner's outside where he was positioned between LAHORE and the favourite TURQUOISE VELOCITY.

He said near the 300 Metres he elected to shift in slightly to follow TURQUOISE VELOCITY as he felt that runner would provide him with the opportunity to improve into the event.

He said when TURQUOISE VELOCITY shifted in slightly leaving the 300 Metres and did not respond to its rider's efforts to improve, he then was required to steady and shift back to the outside of TURQUOISE VELOCITY to obtain clear running.

After considering his explanation the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Purton were reasonable in the circumstances.

Horse No 8 LUCKY SECRET (L073) A Atzeni Bumped heavily at the start and became unbalanced.

Horse No 9 SUPREME VOYAGER (L043) J Orman Shortly after the start was bumped by LUCKY SECRET.

Near the 300 Metres SIGHT HERMOSO improved to the outside of LIVE WIRE when that runner shifted in whilst following TURQUOISE VELOCITY.

When TURQUOISE VELOCITY then commenced to give ground, LIVE WIRE (Z Purton) shifted out, resulting in SIGHT HERMOSO being taken out onto SUPREME VOYAGER which was steadied.

Z Purton was advised to exercise more care.

Noted to have lost its right front plate after the race.

Horse No 11 ZOUPER FELLOW (K284) L Ferraris Noted to have blood in the mouth on arrival at the Start, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

Horse No 12 LAHORE (K043) A Badel A Badel stated that he was given no specific instructions but when his mount commenced well he was able to hold an on-pace position.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 13 CONSPIRATOR (K090) L Hewitson Jumped only fairly.

Held up for clear running between the 350 Metres and the 200 Metres.

Horse No 14 GOLDEN FRIENDSHIP (K106) C L Chau Was struck by TOP MAESTRO when that runner became fractious in the starting gates, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

Horse No 10 TOP MAESTRO (K578) D B McMonagle After being placed in the starting gates became fractious, reared and became cast.

Acting on veterinary advice that the horse was not suitable to race it was withdrawn by order of the Stewards.

Before being allowed to race again, TOP MAESTRO will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
