Recap by phillip woo

Six Pack was prominently placed on the fence and just reeled in long time leader Ka Ying Attack for a first win at his seventh local start. The writing was on the wall and he took full advantage of gate two. Ka Ying Attack did everything right but get the win after dictating the pace from gate four. He can salute at any moment after placing in two of three starts this term. Ghorgan ran on well for third after a wide and with cover trip from behind midfield. He proved a long-priced fourth last start was not a fluke. Favourite With A Smile only plodded for fourth after getting all favours in the box seat from gate one. He wasn't good enough up in class. Beauty Alliance ran on nicely late through the centre for fifth after making his run at the rear from gate 12. It was a good run. Gummy Gummy was on his tippy toes 100m out following a speed-tracking run. He's not a 1,400m horse.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten : (312) - CHUK YUEN HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1400Meters

Horse No 1 BEAUTY ALLIANCE (J260) D B McMonagle For a short distance approaching the 150 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when positioned to the inside of GHORGAN.

Horse No 2 NATURAL NUMBERS (L166) B Avdulla Raced very wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 3 SIX PACK (K061) L Ferraris Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 CLASS (L134) C Y Ho When questioned C Y Ho stated that his mount jumped awkwardly and became unbalanced.

He said shortly after the start when CLASS lay in it struck the heels of KEEN MOLLY when that runner shifted out slightly, resulting in CLASS blundering and losing ground.

He added that throughout the event CLASS continued to lay in and proved difficult to ride out in the Home Straight.

Horse No 5 KA YING ATTACK (J391) M F Poon Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 CHARMING LEGEND (K127) H Bowman Had its left front plate refitted in the saddling stalls, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

Horse No 8 KEEN MOLLY (K386) K Teetan K Teetan stated that with his mount dropping back in distance he was asked to ride it in a more conservative manner in the early stages as the horse had not been finishing its race off strongly when ridden in a forward position.

He added that when the pace of the event was run outside of standard time throughout the middle stages KEEN MOLLY could not finish the race off strongly in the Home Straight.

Horse No 9 WITH A SMILE (K136) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 10 ARMOR GOLDEN EAGLE (K566) A Atzeni Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 11 GHORGAN (K199) M Guyon Raced keenly in the middle stages and near the 750 Metres was steadied away from ARMOR GOLDEN EAGLE.

Horse No 12 LUCKY TOGETHER (L079) A Badel Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 13 EIGHTY LIGHT YEARS (H170) H Bentley H Bentley advised the instructions were to hold an on-pace position but when his mount jumped awkwardly and lost ground it settled further back in the field than intended.

When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight and as to the reason he shifted out and away from a trailing position behind WITH A SMILE, H Bentley stated that soon after entering the Home Straight he was of the opinion that WITH A SMILE was under pressure and not improving into the event.

He said as a result he elected to shift out with a view to improving between GUMMY GUMMY and CHARMING LEGEND.

He said when he attempted to improve between those two runners leaving the 300 Metres GUMMY GUMMY shifted out slightly and as a result he was unable to continue to proceed into that run which resulted in EIGHTY LIGHT YEARS being held up for clear running over the final 300 Metres.

After considering his explanation the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Bentley were reasonable in the circumstances.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
