Recap by phillip woo

Well backed, Romantic Son was too good after hitting the front 200m out following a box-seat run for a second win from 15 local starts. He took full advantage of gate one after rushing home for fifth last start from a wide draw. Bundle Of Charm ran on nicely near the inside for second after a rails run from better than midfield. He's honest as the day is long. Punted late, Silo ran on strongly to snatch third after a one-off trip from behind midfield. It was a solid effort for his new trainer at his first run following lameness in April. Refusetobeenglish ran on nicely for fourth after a rails run from behind midfield following a tardy start. He's given a decent sight in back-to-back Valley starts from three local outings this term. Favourite Loyal Bright had his chance but only plodded over the last 100m after a prominent run. He was first up in Hong Kong. Sovereign Fund made a mild bid after finding a spot travelling one off in midfield from gate 11. Goko Win made headway late without threatening after getting shuffled back to have three behind him 800m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight : (196) - COTTON HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 CHEAHA (K567) Z Purton Bumped on the first turn.

Z Purton reported that his mount settled back in the field and finished the race off in a satisfactory manner.

He added that, in his opinion, CHEAHA is better suited by being stepped up in distance for its next race start.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, CHEAHA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 3 BUNDLE OF CHARM (G213) H Bowman Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 LOYAL BRIGHT (K574) K C Leung Lay out making the Home Turn and in the Home Straight.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 REFUSETOBEENGLISH (K362) A Atzeni Jumped only fairly and shortly after the start made contact with ALSONSO, became unbalanced and lost ground.

Horse No 8 CAPTAIN LINK (K515) M Chadwick Jumped only fairly.

Making the first turn shifted out and made contact with CHEAHA.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer" which had previously been reported.

Horse No 9 ROMANTIC SON (J537) H Bentley Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 10 ALSONSO (J405) A Badel Bumped shortly after the start.

A Badel reported that the intention was to hold an on-pace position but not lead.

He said in the early stages ALSONSO, which was racing in blinkers for the first time, raced keenly and as a result led the event.

He added that he attributed tonight's disappointing performance to the fact that ALSONSO was not suited by racing in the lead.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 12 MY DAY MY WAY (J519) M F Poon From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
