Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Samarkand led and never looked back for a fifth win from 41 starts. He deserved that after giving a cheeky sight to place in two prior starts. Punted late, Ragga Bomb kept on gamely for second after going forward 1,100m after a wide trip from better than midfield to sit second 900m out. He was able to build on two positive showings over the Valley 1,650m. Kolachi just won a three-way battle for third after a prominent run on the fence. It was a better effort with a return to the Valley at his second start down in Class Four this term. Metal King finished willingly to just miss a placing after a patient ride second last from gate 12. It was one of his better efforts from eight starts. Perfect Pairing ran on steadily to just miss a top-four spot after a rails run from midfield. It was his best effort from four starts this season. California Moxie made ground to finish next best after having to check off heels 250m out travelling two from the rear. He should have finished closer. Absolute Awakened made a mild bid after finding a spot on the fence travelling behind midfield from gate 11.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four : (192) - CAROLINE HILL HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 SAMARKAND (H070) L Hewitson Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 COLOURFUL KNIGHT (K366) P N Wong A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 3 KOLACHI (J395) D Probert Prior to declaring weighed-in the Stewards gave consideration if there were grounds for a protest/objection against RAGGA BOMB being declared second placegetter due to interference approaching the 100 Metres.

Having regard to the margin of a length and a half between the two horses at the finish of the event the Stewards declined to lodge a protest/objection and declared weighed-in on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.

Apprentice E C W Wong (RAGGA BOMB) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 100 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of KOLACHI, resulting in KOLACHI having to be checked.

Apprentice Wong was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 10 December 2025 and to expire on Monday, 15 December 2025 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his good race riding record.

Horse No 4 CALIFORNIA MOXIE (J131) H Bowman Bumped shortly after the start.

Approaching the 350 Metres CALIFORNIA MOXIE, which was held up behind COLOURFUL KNIGHT, then improved to the inside of COLOURFUL KNIGHT when that runner shifted out slightly and commenced to give ground.

When COLOURFUL KNIGHT was corrected by its rider, CALIFORNIA MOXIE was checked when disappointed for clear running and as a result shifted in, crowding ABSOLUTE AWAKENED which was also checked.

The Stewards were satisfied that Jockey Bowman had not attempted to improve into a position where there was not sufficient room and that CALIFORNIA MOXIE had improved to the inside of COLOURFUL KNIGHT due to that runner giving ground.

No action was taken.

Horse No 5 MATSU VICTOR (H472) C Y Ho Raced very wide and without cover for the majority of the event and hung out in the middle stages.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 RAGGA BOMB (K162) E C W Wong On jumping was bumped on the hindquarters.

Apprentice E C W Wong pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference approaching the 100 Metres (see KOLACHI).

Raced wide and without cover until near the 800 Metres.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 EXCEL WONGCHOY (J194) L Ferraris Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.

Before being allowed to race again, EXCEL WONGCHOY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 8 ABSOLUTE AWAKENED (K039) A Badel Jumped awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with the hindquarters of RAGGA BOMB and as a result lost ground.

ABSOLUTE AWAKENED was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Near the 350 Metres was crowded by CALIFORNIA MOXIE and was checked.

Horse No 9 HAPPY BUDDIES (K344) K C Leung Raced keenly in the early stages and for some distance after the 1200 Metres was steadied away from EXCEL WONGCHOY.

M F Poon (METAL KING) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that over the concluding stages he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of HAPPY BUDDIES, resulting in HAPPY BUDDIES having to be checked.

M F Poon was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Wednesday, 3 December 2025 at Happy Valley.

In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his very good race riding record.

Horse No 10 PERFECT PAIRING (J331) K Teetan Jumped only fairly and shortly afterwards was crowded between CALIFORNIA MOXIE and HAPPY BUDDIES which shifted out.

Horse No 11 CARRYON SMILING (J392) A Atzeni Shortly after the start was crowded by COLOURFUL KNIGHT which shifted out.

Horse No 12 METAL KING (K135) M F Poon From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

M F Poon pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference over the concluding stages (see HAPPY BUDDIES).

Noted to have lost its right hind plate after the race.
