Recap by phillip woo

Win Method just reeled in Snowthorn in the concluding stages after a prominent run for a maiden win at his eighth start. It was clearly his best run to date in a depthless race. Punted late, Snowthorn gave a cheeky sight in front after clearing to lead from gate seven. It was his first ever placing from seven starts. Free Pony sustained his bid for third after taking off travelling behind midfield 400m out from gate 10. He was able to back up an opening fourth this season. Winning Now just held his ground when asked for an effort after chasing the leader on the fence. It was a better performance after getting no favours on debut last month at Sha Tin. Favourite Genius Baby just failed to get up for fourth after getting held up early straight following a rails run from midfield. It was a better effort following a stable change. Up With Charm ran on without threatening after making his run five back on the fence. Absolute Lucky was doing his best work late through the centre after making his run at the rear from gate 12. Crystal Powerful tamely faded after working hard three wide to eventually sit outside the leader.

Racing Incident Report

Race One : (189) - SO KON PO HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 SIR CHARGE (K361) H Bowman Shortly after the start made contact with DASH which shifted in.

H Bowman stated that his mount over-raced throughout the early and middle stages.

He said near the 450 Metres his mount made contact with FREE PONY when that runner improved quickly to his outside which resulted in SIR CHARGE being held up behind WIN METHOD.

He added that in the Home Straight SIR CHARGE did not respond to his riding and, in his opinion, was still disappointing.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, SIR CHARGE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 2 WAVE GARDEN (K209) K C Leung Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 5 UP WITH CHARM (K139) C Y Ho A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 ABSOLUTE LUCKY (K070) A Atzeni Between the 200 Metres and the 100 Metres raced tight between WAVE GARDEN and BASIC INSTINCT.

A Atzeni reported that from the outside barrier his instructions were to ride the horse conservatively in the early stages and allow it to finish the race off in the Home Straight.

Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions issued.

Noted to have blood in the mouth after the race.

Horse No 7 GENIUS BABY (K132) K Teetan On jumping made contact with the left side of its starting gate.

Approaching the 250 Metres improved to the inside of WINNING NOW (C L Chau) when that runner was commencing to shift in, resulting in GENIUS BABY then being crowded for room near the 250 Metres and racing tight to the inside of WINNING NOW for some distance thereafter.

C L Chau was reprimanded.

When questioned regarding his riding on the Home Turn and in the early stages of the Home Straight K Teetan stated that after following WINNING NOW into the Home Straight he attempted to improve to that runner's inside as he felt WINNING NOW would shift out on the Home Turn and WIN METHOD was positioned directly to his outside.

He said after shifting to the inside of WINNING NOW that runner then shifted in as he attempted to obtain this run which resulted in GENIUS BABY not being able to obtain clear running for some distance after the 250 Metres.

After considering his explanation the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Teetan were reasonable in the circumstances.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 8 CRYSTAL POWERFUL (H068) M Chadwick M Chadwick reported that from a wide barrier he was obliged to make use of his mount in the early stages to race outside the lead.

He said as a consequence in the Home Straight his mount was unable to finish the race off strongly.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 9 DASH (K250) D Probert Shifted in shortly after the start and was bumped.

In the early stages raced ungenerously and making the first turn got its head up when being crossed by FREE PONY.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 10 BASIC INSTINCT (K289) M F Poon Approaching the 200 Metres was held up for clear running when crowded between ABSOLUTE LUCKY which was racing tight to the inside of WAVE GARDEN and SIR CHARGE which shifted out when giving ground.

As a result BASIC INSTINCT was held up for clear running between the 200 Metres and the 100 Metres.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 11 SNOWTHORN (K025) R Kingscote Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 WIN METHOD (K406) H Bentley Sent for sampling post-race.
