Race Four : (173) - THE CHINESE GENERAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 125TH ANNIVERSARYCUP (HANDICAP) - Class 4 - 1650Meters
Horse No 1 QUANTUM PATCH (H166) J McDonald Near the 500 Metres was steadied to avoid TURIN WARRIOR when THESIS improved quickly to its outside.
J McDonald reported that from a wide barrier he was instructed to ride his mount conservatively in the early stages.
Assistant Trainer P H Lo confirmed the instructions issued.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 2 THESIS (H111) J Orman From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 5 TAKE ACTION (J098) Z Purton Leaving the 1000 Metres was steadied to avoid GAMEPLAYER ELITE (H Doyle) which shifted in when not clear.
H Doyle was advised to exercise more care.
Horse No 6 CAN'T GO WONG (H087) M F Poon Lay in over the final 200 Metres.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 7 PRINCE ALEX (G307) H Bowman H Bowman could offer no explanation for his mount's disappointing performance.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 8 TURIN WARRIOR (G150) C Y Ho Jumped only fairly.
Held up for clear running on the Home Turn.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 9 GAMEPLAYER ELITE (H356) H Doyle Steadied near the 1400 Metres.
Hung in throughout the event and proved difficult to ride out in the Home Straight.
H Doyle stated that the intention was to hold a handy position.
She said when caught wide in the early stages she was obliged to continue forward to cross TAKE ACTION and this resulted in her mount obtaining a more forward position than she had been instructed to do.
Horse No 10 GLORIOUS RYDER (K290) L Hewitson Noted to have blood in the mouth on arrival at the Start.
Was examined by the Veterinary Officer and found to be suitable to race.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 11 SETANTA (G095) L Ferraris Near the 1400 Metres SETANTA, which was being steadied to obtain a position behind CAN'T GO WONG, was checked when crowded between CAN'T GO WONG and GAMEPLAYER ELITE (H Doyle) which, after shifting in and away from GLORIOUS RYDER (L Hewitson), was then taken in by that runner, resulting in GAMEPLAYER ELITE having to be steadied.
L Hewitson was reprimanded and advised he must ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.
H Doyle was reprimanded and advised in similar circumstances she would be expected to make a greater effort to prevent her mounts from shifting ground when not clear to do so.
Horse No 12 DASHING DRAGON (J464) M L Yeung Jumped awkwardly.

Veteran Turin Warrior was ridden patiently fourth last and finished strongly to edge out Can't Go Wong by a lip for a fourth win over the Valley 1,650m from 45 starts. He was able to build on a closing sixth first up this term. Can't Go Wong did everything right but get the win after racing to the lead 150m out following a one-off trip from midfield. Like the winner, he's always a chance over this course. Thesis ran on nicely to finish a head away in third after taking off from the rear 500m out. It was an improved effort second up despite gate 12. Take Action just held his ground after a one-out, one-back run. It was another honest performance. Quantum Patch was doing his best work late for fifth after making his run second last from gate 11. He hasn't produced a bad run carrying top weight in all four starts this term. Dashing Dragon made headway late through the centre after a patient ride third last from gate five. He'll be looking forward to a downgrade. Punted late Setanta made only a mild bid after a one-off trip from behind midfield. Like the latter, he'll be looking forward to a downgrade.
