Recap by phillip woo

Post-time favourite Corleone sat in the box seat before hitting the lead 150m out and proving much too good for a maiden win. It was a terrific training feat off a 294-day break, but he had flashed ability in his five starts last term. Sensationally-backed Stormi kept on gamely for second after going for home on top upon straightening sitting near the front and one off the fence from gate 12. It was an improved effort second up this term. Punted late Absolute Awakened stayed on nicely for third after a rails run from midfield. He didn't mind both a rise in trip and switch to the Valley after running well in two of first three starts this term. Vivacious Win made good ground late near the inside for fourth after a patient ride three from the rear. It was an improved effort at his first attempt over the Valley 1,650m. Early favourite Conspiracy Witness ran on without threatening through the centre after a rails run from behind midfield. He couldn't back up a near win last start when trying the Valley 1,650m for the first time. Chain Of Gold ran on late without threatening after making his run one from the rear.

Horse No 5 SMART CITY (J213) Z Purton Bumped shortly after the start.

Z Purton reported that the intention was to hold a more forward position.

He said after riding his mount along in the early stages he was caught wide and for this reason he elected to ride the horse in a conservative manner to obtain a position with cover.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 ABSOLUTE AWAKENED (K039) A Badel After being crossed by CORLEONE near the 1200 Metres raced keenly for some distance thereafter.

Horse No 7 GASTRONOMIQUE (K388) K Teetan Bumped shortly after the start.

In the early stages got its head up when being steadied away from CORLEONE.

Near the 1500 Metres GASTRONOMIQUE was then steadied to avoid WISEMAN which shifted in slightly.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

The performance of GASTRONOMIQUE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, GASTRONOMIQUE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 8 LIGHTNING ARROW (K360) H Doyle Jumped only fairly and then was bumped shortly after the start.

Horse No 9 CONSPIRACY WITNESS (J541) L Ferraris Shifted in on jumping and made contact with the starting gates.

Shortly afterwards was then steadied when crowded by ABSOLUTE HONOUR which shifted out.

He added that CONSPIRACY WITNESS did not travel well throughout the event and finished the race off only fairly in the Home Straight.

Trainer D A Hayes advised that the horse had pleased him leading into tonight's race and, in his opinion, appeared to race "flat" He added he would now consider applying sheepskin cheek pieces to the horse for its next race start.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 10 VIVACIOUS WIN (K223) B Avdulla Shortly after the start bumped with GASTRONOMIQUE.
