Recap by phillip woo

After moving to the lead 150m out following a perfect trip travelling better than midfield on the fence from gate one, Hinokami Kagura just scraped home from the fast-finishing No Other Choice for a second win from 20 starts. No Other Choice rattled home down the outside to finish a close second after travelling detached at the back for the most part. It was an eye-catching effort at his first start on the surface. He Was You ran on well near the inside for third after travelling four back on the fence. He was able to hold his own after an opening win in Class Five on turf this season. Jolly Companion just lost out in a three-way battle for the minor placings after making his run three from the rear. He's building towards a win after filling the frame in his past two of four starts. Dr Golden General made ground late for fifth after making his run two from the rear. It was clearly his best run to date following a switch in surfaces. New Power was on his tippy toes 100m out after going for home on top 300m out following a three-way battle for the front with early favourite Watch This One and the late-fancied Beauty Thunder.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 4 IMPENDING LEGACY (K486) A Atzeni A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 5 BEAUTY THUNDER (J299) H Bentley Near the 350 Metres made contact with NEW POWER and became unbalanced due to both runners shifting ground.

Approaching the winning post shifted in and made contact with NEW POWER and as a result was not ridden out to the finish of the event.

H Bentley stated that the instructions from a wide barrier were to go forward.

He said when unable to cross runners to his inside his mount was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight as it was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 12 NO OTHER CHOICE (K049) M L Yeung When questioned regarding his riding M L Yeung stated that his mount was shifted across behind runners in the early stages from the outside barrier.

He said throughout the event NO OTHER CHOICE appeared to resent the kickback, particularly as it was having its first race start on the All Weather surface.

He said as a result making the Home Turn and in the Home Straight he shifted NO OTHER CHOICE to the outside to endeavour to improve into the event at which point the horse lay out.

He said after shifting to the outside of DASH near the 200 Metres he then changed his whip from his left to his right hand to encourage the horse to respond but as he did so he had some difficulty in pulling the whip through.

He added that once he was able to fully ride his mount along over the final 150 Metres NO OTHER CHOICE found the line strongly.

Sent for sampling post-race.
