Recap by phillip woo

Double Show travelled midfield on the fence from barrier one and was too good after hitting the front 100m out for a third win from 44 starts. It was clearly his best run from eight starts over 1,400m but was second up for his new trainer. Lucky Blessing kept on gamely for second after setting strong early sectionals from gate two. He's building towards a win. The Concentration should have gone closer to winning after getting badly held up for a run between the 400m and 150m following a one-out, one-back trip. Ragnarr got up for fourth with two wider out after making his run wide and without cover from behind midfield. It was an okay effort carrying top weight over a further 200m. Run Yes Run made good ground late for fifth after getting held up for a run until the 200m following a patient ride two from the rear. It was an improved effort.

Racing Incident Report

Race One : (104) - SHEK MUN HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1400Meters

Horse No 1 RAGNARR (H297) Z Purton Shifted out leaving the 900 Metres and was bumped.

Between the 450 Metres and the 300 Metres was held up for clear running.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 CELESTIAL HARMONY (K059) B Avdulla Jumped only fairly.

Approaching the 900 Metres made contact with the running rail when racing tight to the inside of RUN YES RUN which lay in and away from RAGNARR.

Horse No 3 RIDING HIGH (J403) H Bowman Bumped on jumping.

H Bowman stated that the intention was to find a position with cover.

He said in the early stages when he was unable to comply with his instructions he allowed RIDING HIGH to stride forward but when unable to cross the leaders RIDING HIGH was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

He added as a result in the Home Straight his mount was left without a finishing effort.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 4 TSUEN WAN GLORY (E403) P N Wong Shifted out at the start, was bumped and became unbalanced.

Apprentice P N Wong stated that she was obliged to make use of her mount in the early stages to race outside the lead which resulted in TSUEN WAN GLORY then giving ground in the Home Straight.

Trainer K L Man concurred with the views of Apprentice Wong and also stated that the horse was disadvantaged by being up in weight as compared to its last start win.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of TSUEN WAN GLORY, a last start winner, was considered disappointing.

Before being allowed to race again, TSUEN WAN GLORY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 5 SHINE BRIGHT (H385) M Chadwick A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 VERBIER (J187) L Ferraris Despite being ridden along in the early stages did not show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position.

Horse No 7 LUCKY BLESSING (K073) E C W Wong Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 8 RUN YES RUN (J264) M L Yeung Jumped only fairly.

Approaching the 900 Metres lay in and made contact with CELESTIAL HARMONY.

Horse No 9 VIVA CHALEUR (G368) Y L Chung Bumped on jumping.

Horse No 10 CONCORDE STAR (J344) J Orman On jumping was crowded between RIDING HIGH and TSUEN WAN GLORY which shifted out.

When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight J Orman stated that after being positioned behind RAGNARR on straightening he was briefly held up behind that runner leaving the 400 Metres.

He said after then shifting to the outside of RAGNARR he continued to ride his mount along when positioned behind VIVA CHALEUR.

He added that near the 150 Metres when VIVA CHALEUR was laying out as it was being ridden along he then elected to shift to the inside of VIVA CHALEUR to obtain clear running as he was concerned that VIVA CHALEUR would continue to shift out.

He stated that when VIVA CHALEUR maintained a straight course thereafter he had some difficulty obtaining clear running for a short distance near the 100 Metres when improving into a tight run between VIVA CHALEUR and RUN YES RUN.

The Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Orman were reasonable in the circumstances.

Horse No 11 THE CONCENTRATION (H465) C L Chau Badly held up for clear running between the 450 Metres and the 200 Metres.

C L Chau reported that with his mount stepping up in distance and drawing a favourable barrier he was able to hold a more forward position as he had been instructed.

Horse No 12 GLORIOUS EXPERT (J028) H Bentley Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with VIVA CHALEUR.

Passing the 900 Metres was bumped on the hindquarters by RAGNARR which shifted out when being steadied away from VERBIER.

GLORIOUS EXPERT was then obliged to race very wide and without cover thereafter.

Horse No 13 KA YING POWER (H169) A Badel From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Between the 450 Metres and the 300 Metres was held up for clear running.

After the 300 Metres KA YING POWER then improved into a tight run between GLORIOUS EXPERT and RAGNARR.

Horse No 14 DOUBLE SHOW (G250) K Teetan Sent for sampling post-race.
