Recap by phillip woo

Speed Dragon was ridden patiently second last from gate 10 and timed things perfectly to just deny Californiatotality for a third win from 13 starts. It was a terrific training feat first up off 241 days following a ligament injury, but he was a winner of his only other Valley 1,800m start. Well backed Californiatotality found one just too good on the day after poking his head in front 20m out following a box-seat run. He was able to build on an OK sixth last month. Encountered motored home late down the outside to finish a close third after biding his time two from the rear. He's caught the eye in both outings for his new trainer this term. Helene Feeling found a few just too good after going for home on top 300m out pushing forward to track the leader Telecom Fighters 1,450m out. It was a better performance. Jumbo Legend ran on well to finish on the bottom of a blanket finish of five following a one-off trip from behind midfield. Winning Dragon only plodded when asked for an effort after a one-out, one-back run. Lo Rider only beat a couple ridden for luck at the rear. He couldn't back up a win last start over the Valley 1,650m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven : (101) - LEI YUE MUN HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1800Meters

Horse No 1 CHILL CHIBI (H109) H Bowman Bumped at the start.

After the event H Bowman stated that his mount was obliged to race wide and without cover but failed to respond to his riding from the 500 Metres.

He added when not in a competitive position in the Home Straight he eased his mount down from the event.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its left front leg.

The performance of CHILL CHIBI, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, CHILL CHIBI will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination which must include additional diagnostic assessments.

Horse No 2 CALIFORNIATOTALITY (H418) A Badel Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 ENCOUNTERED (G236) K Teetan Shortly after the start was bumped and became unbalanced.

Near the 1700 Metres was ridden along to attempt to hold its position between JUMBO LEGEND and CHILL CHIBI, both of which shifted ground slightly.

Passing the 200 Metres the whip of K Teetan was knocked from his grasp by the whip of Apprentice E C W Wong, rider of JUMBO LEGEND.

Horse No 5 LO RIDER (K161) H Bentley Raced keenly approaching the first turn near the 1300 Metres.

After the event H Bentley stated that the intention was to hold an on-pace position.

He said in the early stages when caught wide and unable to find cover he elected to shift his mount in from a wide barrier to obtain cover which resulted in LO RIDER settling further back than intended.

He added that in the Home Straight LO RIDER finished the race off only fairly from back in the field.

Trainer C Fownes confirmed the intention was to hold a more forward position.

He added in the early stages he was satisfied that Jockey Bentley had obtained a position back in the field as LO RIDER has a tendency to race keenly when ridden along in the early stages.

He said the only explanation he could offer was that LO RIDER was not suited by having to be ridden in this manner in the early stages.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 TELECOM FIGHTERS (D482) J Orman A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
