Recap by phillip woo

Fantastic Fun capitalised on a box-seat run to move to the lead 200m out and fight on strongly for a first win at his ninth local start. The switch to the Valley 1,650m worked the oracle after showing progress in his first two Sha Tin runs for his new trainer this term. Ace War ran on nicely near the inside for second after making his run second last following a slow start. It was clearly his best performance from 13 starts. Glorious Ryder took the shortest route home after a rails run from behind midfield to make it close for second. He was able to build on an OK eighth when trying the Valley 1,650m last month. Forever Glorious kept on next best after getting headed for the lead 600m out by Smart City. It was a good effort first up for his new trainer. Young Fighter just failed to get up for fourth after a one-off trip from behind midfield. It was a better effort with a step up to a mile at the Valley following three OK runs over the Sha Tin 1,200m. Gale Saga just held his ground after a wide trip without cover from midfield. Early favourite Sunday's Serenade didn't get into the act down the outside after making his run two from the rear.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five : (99) - HUNG LUEN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 SUNDAY'S SERENADE (J231) Z Purton Bumped on jumping.

From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Approaching the 1300 Metres raced tight to the inside of FORTUNATE SON.

After the event Z Purton stated that after settling towards the back of the field his mount was unable to make up ground in the Home Straight due to the early and middle stages of the event being run outside of standard time.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 2 STAR GLOW (J429) C Y Ho Bumped at the start.

After the event C Y Ho stated that from a wide barrier he was given the option of taking up a forward position.

He said when STAR GLOW commenced well and the early stages of the event were run outside of standard time he elected to allow STAR GLOW to stride forward and race outside the lead in the early stages.

He added that STAR GLOW was unable to finish the race off in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained small lacerations to the left hind pastern and heel.

The performance of STAR GLOW, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, STAR GLOW will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 5 FANTASTIC FUN (J364) H Bowman Raced keenly in the middle stages.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 SMART CITY (J213) M F Poon Over the concluding stages could not be ridden out when racing tight to the inside of YOUNG FIGHTER which shifted in.

After the event M F Poon stated that he was instructed to find cover if circumstances permitted.

He said in the early stages he endeavoured to comply with his instructions but when caught wide and without cover he elected to allow SMART CITY to stride forward to endeavour to obtain a position closer to the rail.

He added that as a result SMART CITY was obliged to race wide and without cover until near the 700 Metres.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 YOUTH POWER (H358) E C W Wong Between the 500 Metres and the 400 Metres was steadied to avoid STAR GLOW when that runner commenced to give ground.

When questioned Apprentice E C W Wong stated that he was instructed to take up a forward position and lead if circumstances permitted.

He said YOUTH POWER jumped only fairly and then he rode his mount along in the early stages to comply with his instructions.

He said when STAR GLOW improved to his outside he was content to allow that horse to cross his mount as he felt a position with cover would be advantageous.

Horse No 9 YOUNG FIGHTER (K464) R Kingscote Held up for clear running approaching the 400 Metres.

Horse No 10 GALE SAGA (J152) A Badel Was left racing wide and without cover from the 700 Metres.

Horse No 11 ACE WAR (J509) D Probert Became fractious as the start was effected, consequently jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

Held up on the Home Turn.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 YIU CHEUNG VICTORY (J529) K Teetan Jumped only fairly.

From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Approaching the 50 Metres was eased and shifted to the inside of YOUTH POWER to continue into clear running.
