Rocket Spade quickened nicely from midfield and one off to overhaul Star Contact in the final few metres for a third win from 35 starts. He did prevail first up last season as well. Punted late Star Contact did everything right but get the win after claiming the lead near the 200m tracking the slow pace of Another Zonda from gate eight. He's an honest old-timer. Another Zonda grudgingly gave way after emerging the clear leader from gate seven. He was a last-start winner and got the race run to suit. Well-backed Romantic Laos battled away for fourth after a box-seat run. He's an honest Valley horse and should come on from this run. Favourite Excellence Value got going late for fifth travelling third last after getting squeezed out at the start. He wasn't suited by the race tempo either. Victor The Rapid ran on without threatening after making his run one from the rear. He didn't get the tempo to suit and was trying the mile trip for the first time. Harmony Galaxy just held his ground after a rails run from midfield.

Horse No 1 I CAN (H381) A Atzeni After the event A Atzeni stated that he was instructed to ride his mount in a conservative manner in the early stages from the outside barrier.

He added that with the early stages of the event being run outside of standard time I CAN found it difficult to make up ground in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 3 STAR CONTACT (E472) B Avdulla Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 EXCELLENCE VALUE (K093) Z Purton Jumped only fairly and then shortly after was crowded between ROCKET SPADE and HARMONY GALAXY which shifted out.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
