Race Eight : (18) - WAN CHAI HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters
Horse No 2 POWER KOEPP (E301) H Bowman Shifted out at the start and was bumped.
Horse No 3 SOVEREIGN FUND (J402) K Teetan Over the final 350 Metres was badly held up and as a consequence could not be tested in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 4 GIANT LEAP (J143) R Kingscote Near the 150 Metres, when giving ground, became unbalanced when positioned tight to the inside of SOVEREIGN FUND when that runner was badly held up for clear running.
Horse No 5 REGAL GEM (K258) K C Leung Jumped awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with LUCKY PLANET, resulting in REGAL GEM becoming unbalanced.
A short distance later REGAL GEM was steadied to avoid GIANT LEAP (R Kingscote).
R Kingscote was reprimanded.
Near the 300 Metres was bumped by STORMING DRAGON when that runner shifted to the outside of THRIVING BROTHERS to improve.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 6 STORMING DRAGON (J237) B Avdulla Bumped near the 300 Metres when it shifted out to improve.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 7 KINGDOM OF RICHES (K079) H Bentley Held up between the 300 Metres and the 150 Metres.
Horse No 8 LUCKY PLANET (H235) M F Poon Crowded shortly after the start.
Approaching the 1100 Metres shifted in and away from GIANT LEAP, made contact with THRIVING BROTHERS and became unbalanced.
Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No 9 VICTOR THE RAPID (J393) C L Chau From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 10 KING OF FIGHTERS (K174) A Badel For a short distance approaching the 400 Metres raced tight to the inside of STORMING DRAGON.
Horse No 11 THRIVING BROTHERS (J396) M Chadwick Crowded shortly after the start by POWER KOEPP which shifted out.
Approaching the 1100 Metres was contacted on the hindquarters by LUCKY PLANET which was racing tight to the inside of GIANT LEAP, resulting in THRIVING BROTHERS becoming unbalanced.
Horse No 12 MONARCH COUNTY (J421) A Atzeni Leaving the 1000 Metres MONARCH COUNTY, which was racing keenly, was steadied to avoid GIANT LEAP (R Kingscote) which shifted in when not clear.
R Kingscote was severely reprimanded.
Over-raced throughout the early and middle stages and in the Back Straight was steadied to avoid DRAGON FOUR SEAS.
Badly held up between the 350 Metres and the 100 Metres.
Jockey A Atzeni was fined the sum of $5,000 for weighing in 2 lbs overweight on return to scale.
Sent for sampling post-race.

Storming Dragon was ridden patiently fourth last and showed a good turn of foot to win going away 100m out for a third win from 21 starts. He deserved that after placing in three of his final four starts last term. Regal Gem ran on nicely for second after a wide trip with cover from behind midfield. He was able to back up an upset win over Storming Dragon at his final start last term. King Of Fighters ran on nicely for third after making his run two from the rear. He appreciated the step back to the Valley 1,200m of placings in three of four starts last term. Well-backed Thriving Brothers stayed on fourth best after a one-off trip from midfield. He's run well with a return to Class Three in his past two starts. Dragon Four Seas gradually faded after tracking the speed from gate 12. The gate and big weight took its toll. Victor The Rapid made headway late down the outside after making his run at the rear from gate 11. Both early favourite Sovereign Fundd and the late-fancied favourite Monarch Countyd were both badly held up for a run upon straightening and can be forgiven for the runs.
