Recap by phillip woo

Bundle Award came from last to just beat Happy Together for a fourth win and first over 1,600m from 11 starts. He is a smart horse. The honest Happy Together found one just too good after briefly finding the front 60m out following a conservative ride three from the rear. He was able to back up a second last start over 1,400m. Beauty Joy came on late near the inside to just grab third after a patient ride one from the rear. It was another solid run carrying top weight following a win. Patch Of Theta ran on well for fourth after a rails run from behind midfield. It was another honest effort. Young Champion had his chances but had to settle for fifth after nearly drawing level for the lead 200m out following a one-off trip from midfield. It was an OK effort. Chancheng Glory gradually faded after briefly poking his head in front 100m out following a prominent run. Keefy whacked on one paced after sitting third behind the runaway leader Soleil Fighter.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight : (835) - THE HONG KONG RACEHORSE OWNERS ASSOCIATION TROPHY (HANDICAP) - Class 1 - 1600Meters

Horse No 1 BEAUTY JOY (E058) K C Leung Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 3 BEAUTY ETERNAL (H008) J Orman After the event J Orman could offer no explanation for his mount's disappointing performance.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, BEAUTY ETERNAL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 4 HAPPY TOGETHER (G446) A Badel Near the 300 Metres improved into a narrow run between YOUNG CHAMPION and MASSIVE SOVEREIGN and as a result made contact with MASSIVE SOVEREIGN.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 PATCH OF THETA (H485) H Bowman Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 6 MASSIVE SOVEREIGN (J208) Z Purton From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Near the 300 Metres was bumped by HAPPY TOGETHER.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 BUNDLE AWARD (K020) A Atzeni From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 8 YOUNG CHAMPION (J195) K Teetan Raced keenly in the middle stages.

For some distance near the 900 Metres was steadied to avoid CHANCHENG GLORY.

Horse No 9 SOLEIL FIGHTER (J127) B Thompson When questioned B Thompson stated that his instructions were to hold a forward position and he was given the option to lead if circumstances permitted.

He said after his mount commenced well he was able to hold the lead in the early stages whereby SOLEIL FIGHTER commenced to race keenly which resulted in him having to restrain the horse for some distance in the early stages to attempt to set a slower pace.

He added making the turn near the 850 Metres he elected to allow SOLEIL FIGHTER more rein as he felt it was detrimental to continue to fight against the horse.

He said after this his mount relaxed better and although he was aware he was setting a pace that was inside of standard time he felt that it was more beneficial to allow the horse to travel comfortably.

He said from the 500 Metres he placed his mount under pressure where it initially responded before being unable to finish the race off over the final 200 Metres.

He added that he agreed with the Stewards that in the circumstances it may have been better to hold his mount up until entering the Home Straight.
