Racing Incident Report
Race Nine : (755) - CHEUNG SHEUNG HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters
Horse No 1 CHATEAUNEUF (J219) E C W Wong Shortly after the start was checked when crowded by FATAL BLOW which shifted out abruptly when being corrected by its rider.
After the event Apprentice E C W Wong stated that his mount settled further back in the field after being checked at the start.
He said in the Home Straight CHATEAUNEUF ran on only fairly.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 2 WINGS OF WAR (H162) H Bowman Crowded shortly after the start.
Horse No 3 HAYDAY (H321) C L Chau Near the 200 Metres was eased when racing tight between SKY CAP and EVERSTAR which shifted in and away from NORDIC DRAGON.
Horse No 4 KING MILES (J158) Z Purton Crowded shortly after the start.
After the event Z Purton stated that from a wide barrier his mount settled further back in the field in the early stages to avoid racing wide.
He said in the Home Straight KING MILES found it difficult to make up ground from back in the field.
Trainer K W Lui stated that Jockey Purton was given the option to hold a more forward position but KING MILES did not show sufficient pace to do so and agreed that the horse was disadvantaged by settling back in the field.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
The performance of KING MILES was considered disappointing as comparted to its previous race starts .
Before being allowed to race again, KING MILES will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Horse No 5 NORDIC DRAGON (G467) A Hamelin Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 6 FATAL BLOW (J484) A Atzeni Shifted out abruptly at the start, was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced.
Horse No 7 LOOKING BRIGHT (K315) A Badel Knuckled on jumping, shifted in and made contact with EVERSTAR.
Approaching the 50 Metres A Badel had his whip knocked from his grasp by the whip of K C Leung, the rider of VERY GRATEFUL.
Horse No 8 VERY GRATEFUL (K396) K C Leung Jumped only fairly and shortly after the start was bumped by SKY CAP which shifted in.
Horse No 9 EVERSTAR (K264) H Bentley Bumped at the start.
Horse No 10 GOLDEN RISE (H242) B Thompson Shortly after the start was bumped by KING MILES.
Horse No 11 SOVEREIGN FUND (J402) K Teetan Crowded shortly after the start.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 12 SKY CAP (K125) M L Yeung Shifted in at the start and was bumped.
Near the 150 Metres rider M L Yeung dropped his whip.
Over the final 100 Metres raced tight between LOOKING BRIGHT and EVERSTAR which shifted in and away from NORDIC DRAGON.

8 June 2025 Sha Tin Racemeeting - Race 4 (740) ETALON OR - The Stewards tonight questioned A Badel in relation to the tactics he adopted in the middle stages of the event when the winner PING HAI COMET was able to shift out and improve into the race near the 600 Metres.
A Badel stated that ETALON OR settled closer than intended and raced keenly during the early and middle stages of the event.
He said from the 700 Metres his mount came under pressure and when EVERYONE'S CLASSIC then improved forward and shifted out, he lost the position behind that horse.
He added as a result PING HAI COMET was able to shift out near the 600 Metres and he felt at that stage his best option was to follow PING HAI COMET into the race as it was travelling strongly.
The Stewards noted the explanation provided by Jockey Badel.

Well-backed Nordic Dragon ran on nicely to take control 150m out after peeling four wide 600m out following a wide with cover trip from midfield for a sixth win from 33 starts and first from 12 starts this term. Sovereign Fund ran on strongly to finish a close second after getting held up for a run from the 300m until the 150m turning the final bend four back and one off the fence. Everstar stayed on well for third after a prominent run one off with cover. He's improved from one run to the next in this grade after a Class Four win. Very Grateful stayed on nicely along the inside for fourth after a rail run from better than midfield. He's heading in the right direction with fourths in both local runs. Wings Of War ran on nicely with two wider out for fifth after straightening two from the rear. He rarely produces a bad run over this Valley trip. Fatal Blow kept on reasonably well with one wider out for sixth after a wide trip towards the rear. He hasn't disgraced in either of his three recent runs in this grade. Favourite Chateauneuf never landed a blow settling towards the rear. The move to a seven-pound claimer backfired.
