Recap by phillip woo

Sensationally backed California Moxie circled the field from the near the rear 650m out to lead and proved too smart to make it back-to-back wins and a first in this grade from 17 starts. Soaring Bronco kept on gamely for second after handing up the lead to the late-fancied Lucky Banner 1,000m out. He continues to race very well without winning in this grade. Celestial Patch came from last and widest out for third. It was a vastly improved effort with a switch to the Valley and gear change after showing nothing in three 1,400m starts. Turin Warrior wove a run to take fourth after getting held up for a run until the 250m travelling two from the rear. He's always a chance in this grade over the Valley 1,650m. Leslie whacked on one-paced after a prominent run along the inside. It was an OK effort in a rare appearance at the Valley. Flying Wrote ran on without threatening after a one-off trip from behind midfield. He couldn't back up a troubled fourth last start. Favourite Thesis only plodded when asked for an effort after a one-off trip from midfield. It was a disappointing run carrying top weight.
