Race Nine : (677) - HOI LAI HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters
Horse No 1 LUCKY EIGHT (G204) M F Poon Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of M F Poon, 5th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ensure that he fully rides his mounts out to the finish of the race.
Horse No 2 CRIMSON FLASH (K173) A Atzeni Shifted in shortly after the start and was bumped.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 3 STORM RIDER (J027) Z Purton Shortly after the start was bumped by CRIMSON FLASH which shifted in.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 4 NORDIC DRAGON (G467) A Hamelin Making the first turn was steadied when momentarily crowded between WUKONG JEWELLERY and STORM RIDER which was racing tight to the inside of CRIMSON FLASH.
Approaching the 200 Metres had some difficulty obtaining clear running when improving between KING ECCELLENTE and LUCKY EIGHT which shifted out.
Horse No 5 STORMING DRAGON (J237) L Ferraris After travelling a short distance was steadied when crowded between SKY CAP which shifted in slightly and STAR SATYR which was taken out slightly by CRIMSON FLASH.
Bumped approaching the 200 Metres.
Horse No 7 NORTHERN FIRE BALL (J488) C L Chau After the event C L Chau stated that he was given the option to ride his mount with cover.
He said when the pace of the event was run inside of standard time in the early stages he elected to comply with his instructions to obtain cover.
He further stated that NORTHERN FIRE BALL may not have appreciated the step-up in class tonight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 8 STAR SATYR (K231) Y L Chung Near the 100 Metres was steadied and shifted to the outside of KING ECCELLENTE to obtain clear running.
Horse No 9 BALLISTIC WIN (J040) B Thompson Approaching the 500 Metres was steadied to avoid WUKONG JEWELLERY which gave ground at that point.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 10 SKY CAP (K125) M L Yeung Jumped awkwardly.
After the event M L Yeung reported that his instructions were to go forward.
He said in the early stages he was obliged to make some use of his mount to obtain the lead and this, together with the horse stepping up in class tonight, were the principal reasons for its disappointing performance.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 11 KING ECCELLENTE (G264) M Chadwick Approaching the 200 Metres shifted out and away from NORDIC DRAGON and as a result made contact with STORMING DRAGON.

Post-time favourite Crimson Flash chased the speed one off the fence from gate six, moved to the lead 250m out and proved too good for back-to-back wins following a move to blinkers and switch to the Valley 1,200m. He will remain in the grade and can win another. Storm Rider ran on well for second from better than midfield. It was another honest performance. Storming Dragon came from last at the 650m and with one wider out upon straightening to snatch third. He rarely produces a bad run. Nordic Dragon had to settle for fourth for a third straight time after a one-off trip from behind midfield. He's just not good enough at this level. Lucky Eight plugged on one-paced after a prominent run wide without cover the entire trip from gate 11. He had an excuse. Star Satyr came from last and furthest out upon straightening for sixth. It was an improved effort at his third local start. Wukong Jewellery travelled midfield on the rails and kept on fairly for seventh. He needed the run on his local debut. Sky Cap tamely faded in the run to the wire after finding the lead 950m out after a tardy start.
