Recap by phillip woo

Post-time favourite Flying Fortress had a perfect trip in the box seat from gate one and proved too good after shooting to the lead 200m out for a first win at his sixth local start. He had been knocking on the door in two prior starts and likely has the tools to win another. Rocket Spade ran on nicely for second after making his run at the rear from the widest draw. He's having a good campaign. Kolachi ran on well for third after a rails run from midfield. It was an improved effort at his second local run following a switch to the turf. Ivy League grudgingly gave way after emerging to lead at the 1,000m from three others vying for the early lead. He is a well-rated runner and can bob up at any moment. Cambridge made ground late for fifth after a one-off trip from behind midfield. It was a better performance down in Class Three off a recent second trialling over 1,600m. Star Contact ran on without threatening after making his run two from the rear. Early favourite Good Luck Win failed to menace after easing out of a four-way battle for the front from gate 10 to travel one-off from better than midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight : (579) - MONG KOK HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 OUTGATE (H113) A Badel Bumped at the start.

After the 500 Metres was hampered when taken wider by FLYING FORTRESS which shifted to the outside of IVY LEAGUE to improve.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 2 STAR CONTACT (E472) K Teetan Shortly after the start was bumped by SETANTA which shifted in.

After the event, K Teetan stated that instructions were to hold a midfield position.

Horse No 3 CAMBRIDGE (K085) K C Leung Bumped on jumping.

Y L Chung (GOOD LUCK WIN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of CAMBRIDGE, resulting in CAMBRIDGE having to be checked to avoid the heels of GOOD LUCK WIN.

Y L Chung was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 27 April 2025 and to expire on Thursday, 1 May 2025 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his good race riding record.

Raced keenly in the middle stages.

Near the 450 Metres was briefly held up behind GOOD LUCK WIN.

Near the 300 Metres was steadied when held up behind OUTGATE which commenced to give ground.

Horse No 4 ROCKET SPADE (G170) H Bowman From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Held up on the Home Turn.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 CHARITY TOGETHER (K254) M F Poon Sustained an abrasion to the right lip whilst being transported to Happy Valley, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 7 SUPER UNICORN (H481) M L Yeung After the event, M L Yeung stated that his instructions were to go forward.

He said with the early stages of the event being run inside of standard time his mount did not finish the race off in the Home Straight.

He added, in his view, SUPER UNICORN may be better suited by being ridden in a conservative manner in the early stages.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 8 IVY LEAGUE (H116) K De Melo Bumped on jumping.

Horse No 9 SETANTA (G095) L Hewitson Bumped at the start.

Horse No 10 FLYING FORTRESS (J445) H Bentley Made contact with OUTGATE when being shifted out near the 500 Metres to improve.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 GOOD LUCK WIN (J135) Y L Chung Y L Chung (GOOD LUCK WIN) pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 1100 Metres (see CAMBRIDGE).

When questioned regarding his riding in the early stages, Y L Chung stated that his instructions were to endeavour to lead the event with the horse carrying a light weight.

He said in the early stages he endeavoured to comply with his instructions, however, when a number of runners held their position to his inside GOOD LUCK WIN was caught very wide.

He said having regard to his instructions he continued to urge his mount forward but when unable to cross he elected, approaching the 1100 Metres, to shift in behind the leaders to obtain cover.

The Stewards advised Jockey Chung that he had made an error of judgement in the early stages by persisting for too long in an endeavour to cross runners to his inside and he should have taken a position with cover behind the leaders sooner than what he did.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
