Recap by phillip woo

Aeris Nova settled one off in midfield and just got up by a lip to deny odds-on favourite Crossborderpegasus for a first win at his eighth start. Crossborderpegasus ran a cracker in defeat after moving to the lead near the 200m after a wide without cover trip from better than midfield. He remains one to follow. Fortune Supernova came from near last to fill a placing at juicy odds. It was a smart effort. Call Me Gorgeous kept on well for fourth after getting caught behind a wall of horses until the 200m following a boxseat run. He'll be tough to beat shortly in Class Four. Plunged late in betting, Packing Power kept on one-paced after a one-out, one-back run. He likely needed the run after a last-start defeat in January with blood in his trachea. Ka Ying Victory was on his tippy toes 100m out after spearing straight to the lead from gate nine. Like the latter, he was returning to action after failing in January with blood in his trachea. Sunny Da Best only plodded when asked for an effort following a wide with cover trip from midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine : (551) - HOMESTEAD HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 PACKING POWER (J284) C L Chau Leaving the 1000 Metres, when racing ungenerously, blundered.

C L Chau pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference over the concluding stages (see CHATEAUNEUF).

Horse No 2 CHATEAUNEUF (J219) K Teetan K Teetan was fined the sum of $2,000 for failing to present himself in the Parade Ring by the required time.

Bumped at the start.

C L Chau (PACKING POWER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that over the concluding stages he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of CHATEAUNEUF, resulting in CHATEAUNEUF having to check when it lost its rightful running.

C L Chau was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 20 April 2025 and to expire on Thursday, 24 April 2025 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

In addition, Jockey Chau was fined $30,000.

In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his poor race riding record.

Horse No 3 KA YING VICTORY (H287) M F Poon Shifted in at the start and was bumped.

After the event, M F Poon confirmed that his instructions were to lead the event and ride his mount in a similar manner to when it was successful in a barrier trial on 11 March 2025.

Horse No 4 BEAUTY CRESCENT (H334) J Orman From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 5 CROSSBORDERPEGASUS (K008) H Bowman H Bowman was found guilty of a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 1000 Metres (see SUNNY DA BEST).

Hung in in the Home Straight and proved difficult to ride out.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 SUNNY DA BEST (J118) Z Purton H Bowman (CROSSBORDERPEGASUS) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1000 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of SUNNY DA BEST, contributing to SUNNY DA BEST having to be checked when crowded for room by CROSSBORDERPEGASUS.

H Bowman was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Sunday, 20 April 2025 at Sha Tin.

In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his very good race riding record.

After the event, Z Purton stated that although his mount was interfered with near the 1000 Metres it finished the race off only fairly when placed under pressure in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 AERIS NOVA (J534) K C Leung Bumped at the start.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 8 FORTUNE SUPERNOVA (K287) H Bentley From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Lay in when placed under pressure in the early part of the Home Straight.

Horse No 9 MOJAVE DESERT (J330) L Ferraris After the event, L Ferraris stated that his mount failed to respond to his riding in the Home Straight and over the concluding stages he was concerned there may be something amiss with MOJAVE DESERT.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of MOJAVE DESERT was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts.

Before being allowed to race again, MOJAVE DESERT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 10 CALL ME GORGEOUS (K091) M Chadwick Between the 350 Metres and the 200 Metres was held up for clear running.
