Another World settled in the box seat and claimed the long-time leader Yuen Long Elite 100m out to up his record to three wins and a second over 1,400m from seven starts. Yuen Long Elite gave a cheeky sight in front after clearing to the lead from gate eight. He's held his own in back-to-back runs in this grade following a win. Punted late Magnificent Nine ran on nicely to grab third after a rails run from behind midfield. He backed up a win in Class Four with two solid efforts to place at this level. Storming Dragon made ground for fourth after a rails run from midfield. He's as honest as the day is long. Sky Trust got going late down the outside for fifth after a patient ride third last carrying top weight from gate 11. It was another genuine performance. Spicy Gold had no more to offer 100m out following a speed-tracking run from gate nine. He's a Valley horse. Charming Legend ran on late without menacing after making his run wide on the track one from the rear from gate 10. He appeared to need the start off a 77-day break.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten : (552) - LUGARD HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1400Meters

Horse No 1 SKY TRUST (J161) R Kingscote In the early part of the Home Straight lay in when being shifted to the outside of ACROSS DA UNIVERSE to obtain clear running.

Horse No 2 CHARMING LEGEND (K127) H Bowman When questioned H Bowman stated that from a wide barrier he was given the instructions to endeavour to obtain a midfield position with cover if possible.

He said although CHARMING LEGEND began well, when YUEN LONG ELITE showed good pace to his inside, he endeavoured to obtain a midfield position as instructed.

He said when caught wide in the Back Straight and CHARMING LEGEND was racing keenly he elected to restrain his mount further to obtain cover behind SKY TRUST in order to encourage his mount to settle.

He said as a result CHARMING LEGEND was positioned at the rear of the field although it settled once it obtained cover.

When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight, H Bowman stated that after placing his mount under full pressure near the 450 Metres CHARMING LEGEND responded well to his riding and when he was satisfied that CHARMING LEGEND was at its top he used the whip sparingly as it continued to respond to his hands and heels riding.

Trainer C S Shum was contacted in relation to the instructions issued.

Mr Shum confirmed that connections had requested the horse be ridden in a midfield position in the early stages as CHARMING LEGEND had not finished the race off at its previous race start when ridden in a forward position due to it racing too keenly.

After considering his explanation, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Bowman were reasonable in the circumstances.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 4 SPICY GOLD (H440) A Badel A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 STORMING DRAGON (J237) K Teetan Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 7 YUEN LONG ELITE (J272) M L Yeung After the event, M L Yeung stated that from a wide barrier his instructions were to hold a handy position.

He said after riding his mount along in the early stages to comply with his instructions, he was caught wide and as a result he elected to continue forward and cross to the lead to avoid covering additional ground.

Horse No 11 ACROSS DA UNIVERSE (J328) A Atzeni Approaching the 200 Metres shifted out and away from AUTOMATED, resulting in its rider having to stop riding and straighten.

Horse No 12 SUGAR BALL (H394) H Bentley Bumped shortly after the start and shifted in.
