Recap by phillip woo

Punted late Mighty Strength travelled on the rails from behind midfield before pushing into the open 200m out and quickening nicely through the middle to get up 50m out for a second win at his ninth start. He had been knocking on the door and relished a step up to 2,000m. Management Folks ran on nicely to grab second after turning the final bend fourth last following his usual slow start. He rarely produces a bad run at 2,000m and further. Rosewood Fleetfoot stayed on nicely for third after a one-out, one-back run. It was a much better run following a gear change and step up to 2,000m at his third career start. Firefoot kept plugging away for fourth after chasing the leader Youth Power one off the fence. It was a pleasing effort at his first go over 2,000m. Favourite Mission Strike made only a mild bid after a rails run from midfield. The step up to 2,000m failed to pan out after back-to-back placings over 1,800m. Youth Power gradually faded after dictating the run from gate one. He didn't quite get the trip.

Race One : (543) - SEVERN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 2000Meters

Horse No 1 JOYFUL PROSPERITY (H213) C L Chau From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 3 SERANGOON (H296) H Bentley Shortly after the start raced tight to the inside of GOOD GOOD.

For some distance after the 600 Metres raced tight between KASA PAPA and MANAGEMENT FOLKS which shifted to the outside of MIGHTY STRENGTH to improve.

Horse No 4 MIGHTY STRENGTH (H450) M F Poon Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 MISSION STRIKE (J377) L Ferraris Jumped only fairly.

After the event, L Ferraris stated that his mount travelled satisfactorily in the early stages.

He added in the Home Straight MISSION STRIKE lay in and proved reluctant to shift to the outside of FIREFOOT when endeavouring to obtain a narrow run between FIREFOOT and ROSEWOOD FLEETFOOT.

He said after making contact with ROSEWOOD FLEETFOOT, MISSION STRIKE continued to lay in and was reluctant to improve between runners and finished the race off only fairly.

In this incident, L Ferraris dropped his right rein for a number of strides.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 ACE WAR (J509) H Bowman After the event, H Bowman stated that when caught wide and without cover in the early stages his mount raced keenly.

He said near the 1200 Metres he allowed ACE WAR to stride forward where it obtained a position outside the lead passing the 1000 Metres.

He added due to the manner in which it raced in the early stages ACE WAR was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 AFFORDABLE (J242) M L Yeung Jumped only fairly.

From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

The performance of AFFORDABLE was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, AFFORDABLE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on AFFORDABLE at the request of Trainer D A Hayes.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Horse No 9 ROSEWOOD FLEETFOOT (J524) B Thompson On jumping became unbalanced when bumped by FIREFOOT which shifted out.

Near the 300 Metres bumped with MISSION STRIKE.

After the event, B Thompson stated that from a wide barrier the intention was to ride his mount in a conservative manner in the early stages.

He said when ROSEWOOD FLEETFOOT commenced well and he saw an opportunity to hold a more forward position he elected to allow the horse to continue forward to take up a position behind the lead in the early stages.

Horse No 10 FIREFOOT (J183) J Orman Shifted out at the start and was bumped.

Horse No 11 GOOD GOOD (J224) B Avdulla After the event, B Avdulla reported that his mount obtained a favourable position throughout the early and middle stages of the event but failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the Home Straight.

Trainer J Size advised the he had been satisfied with the horse leading into today's race but having regard to its performance it would now receive a let-up before its next race start.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of GOOD GOOD was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts.

Before being allowed to race again, GOOD GOOD will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Approaching the 500 Metres was bumped by SERANGOON and became unbalanced.

In assessing penalty the Stewards were satisfied that his actions had not affected his finishing position in the race.

After the event, D McDonogh confirmed that from the inside barrier the instructions were to lead the event.

Trainer D A Hayes confirmed the instructions and said he issued such instructions as YOUTH POWER had a tendency to race keenly at its previous race starts and he was of the opinion that it may settle better in front.

Horse No 14 MANAGEMENT FOLKS (E496) K Teetan Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost ground.

Before being allowed to race again, MANAGEMENT FOLKS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

For some distance approaching the 500 Metres shifted to the outside of MIGHTY STRENGTH to obtain clear running and as a result raced tight.

Sent for sampling post-race.
