Recap by phillip woo

Cap Ferrat settled prominently on the fence, hit the lead 150m out and just held off the fast-finishing My Wish for a maiden win anywhere at his 17th start and fourth in Hong Kong. He relished the step up in distance and was given a lovely ride by Craig Williams. Punted late My Wish flew home late down the outside to miss by a bob of heads ridden for luck at the rear from gate 14. It was an enormous effort. Packing Angel ran on well for third after a one-off trip from behind midfield. He ran very well in defeat and has a bright future. Lo Rider held on for fourth after getting a soft time in front from gate one. He's close to a win. Favourite Rubylot produced a grinding effort travelling one-off with cover in midfield. He couldn't back up a win last start in the Classic Cup. Johannes Brahms ran on late without menacing after a rails run from behind midfield. He couldn't build on a third in the Classic Cup. Bundle Award was doing his best work late without threatening after a patient ride fourth last from gate nine. He needed a stronger tempo.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven : (530) - THE BMW HONG KONG DERBY 2025 - Class 4YO - 2000Meters

Horse No 1 RUBYLOT (H412) B Avdulla Bumped at the start.

The Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred in the middle stages where RUBYLOT was positioned tight to the inside of NOISY BOY.

After taking evidence from B Avdulla and C Soumillon, rider of NOISY BOY, the Stewards were satisfied that whilst NOISY BOY had kept RUBYLOT tight during the middle stages of the event, Jockey Soumillon had not ridden outside the requirement of the Rules, however, he was advised, wherever possible, he should ensure that runners positioned to his inside have comfortable racing room.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 MY WISH (J256) L Ferraris Trainer M Newnham confirmed that from the outside barrier the instructions were to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 JOHANNES BRAHMS (K014) A Atzeni Near the 350 Metres was steadied when disappointed for clear running between RUBYLOT and NOISY BOY.

Near the 200 Metres was shifted to the inside of CALIFORNIATOTALITY to continue into clear running.

Horse No 5 BUNDLE AWARD (K020) B Thompson From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 8 NOISY BOY (J536) C Soumillon When questioned, C Soumillon stated that his instructions were to find cover.

He said when caught wide in the early stages he was unable to comply with his instructions and as a result NOISY BOY was obliged to race wide and without cover until near the 800 Metres.

He added that due to the wide run in the early stages and the fact that the horse had a hard run at its most recent start on 2 March 2025, NOISY BOY gave ground under pressure in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 9 CAP FERRAT (K021) C Williams Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 10 STEPS AHEAD (J263) L Hewitson From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Near the 300 Metres was steadied when crowded between RUBYLOT which shifted out slightly and JOHANNES BRAHMS (A Atzeni) which, after being disappointed for clear running between RUBYLOT and NOISY BOY, was then shifted to the inside of RUBYLOT to obtain clear running.

A Atzeni was advised to exercise more care.

STEPS AHEAD then raced tight between MICKLEY and JOHANNES BRAHMS until near the 150 Metres when it shifted to the inside of MICKLEY to obtain clear running.

Horse No 11 CALIFORNIATOTALITY (H418) J Orman A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 12 MARKWIN (J420) W Buick From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After the event, W Buick reported that his mount made a respiratory noise when placed under pressure on the Home Turn before giving ground in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 14 BEAUTY ALLIANCE (J260) A Badel Bumped at the start.
