Race Six : (471) - SAM SHING HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters
Horse No 1 LUCKY TOUCH (J203) J McDonald From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 3 PRECISION GOAL (H016) L Ferraris Lay out on the Home Turn and in the early part of the Home Straight.
Horse No 4 SHANGHAI STYLE (J093) E C W Wong Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 5 BRAVE WITNESS (H425) B Avdulla Noted to have blood in the mouth on arrival at the Start, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.
From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 6 LAKESHORE HERO (J288) H Bowman At declaration time, B Avdulla was declared as the rider of both BRAVE WITNESS and LAKESHORE HERO.
It was established that B Avdulla had a firm commitment to ride BRAVE WITNESS.
As such, the Stewards permitted H Bowman to be substituted as the rider of LAKESHORE HERO.
For this declaration error, Trainer D J Hall was fined $2,000.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 7 VIVA CHALEUR (G368) K Teetan On jumping was crowded between SILVER KING and ESCAPE ROUTE.
In the middle stages raced keenly.
Horse No 9 LUCKY BANNER (G354) J Moreira Near the 150 Metres, LUCKY BANNER, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded by LUCKY TOUCH (J McDonald) which shifted in.
J McDonald was reprimanded.
After the event, J Moreira stated that in the early stages he had to make some use of his mount to cross runners to his inside and take up a position outside the lead.
He added in the Home Straight LUCKY BANNER gave ground and after being crowded near the 150 Metres did not finish the race off thereafter.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 11 SPANGLE FORTUNE (G427) M F Poon From the 1000 Metres raced wide and without cover.
Horse No 12 CALIFORNIA STAR (J123) B Thompson Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
Throughout the early and middle stages raced keenly and refused to settle.
The performance of CALIFORNIA STAR, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.
Before being allowed to race again, CALIFORNIA STAR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a minor abrasion to the left front pastern.
Horse No 13 MEEPMEEP (H234) A Badel Approaching the finish post could not be fully ridden out when it improved close to SHANGHAI STYLE.
Horse No 14 YEAH BUDDY (J430) A Atzeni From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Shanghai Style kept on gamely after hitting the lead 150m out following a prominent run on the fence for a second win from 12 starts. It was an unexpected result after he could only produce a no-excuse sixth last start. Lucky Touch launched late through the centre to just miss after finding the fence travelling behind midfield from gate 13. He's been holding his condition very well in six straight runs across both surfaces following an October win. Viva Chaleur ran on nicely near the outside to fill a placing after making his run three wide near the rear. He's racing well without winning on this surface. Meepmeep got up from midfield for fourth but was short of room at times in the stretch drive. Early favourite Precision Goal was on his tippy toes 100m out after getting his own way in front from gate three. He found it harder carrying seven pounds more following back-to-back wins. Escape Route ran on without threatening after making his run five back and one off the fence. He might be worth trying over 1,800m on this surface.
