Recap by phillip woo

After dictating the run from gate four, favourite Justifying drew clear to post a good time in a smart debut win. He did win both lead-up trials and the future looks very bright. Debutant Super Strong Kid jumped out of his skin late from behind midfield to grab second in the concluding stages. Like the winner, he was able to live up to some good trials. Jumbo Treasure just got the bob down late to deny Summit Cheers for third after a prominent run in the centre of the track. He's improved from one run to the next following a debut fifth. Summit Cheers grudgingly gave way after chasing the speed on the stands side from gate 11. It was another honest effort over the straight 1,000m but he is getting long in the tooth. Do Your Part stuck on all right travelling better than midfield from gate 12. It was clearly his best run from six starts. Grand Nova ran on steadily to finish next best. He's gone all right in both starts following a return to Class Four, but the big weight has anchored him.

Racing Incident Report

Race One : (466) - FU TAI HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1000Meters

Horse No 2 MULTISUPER (G416) D McDonogh Prior to declaring weighed-in, the Stewards gave consideration as to whether MULTISUPER had been afforded a fair start.

After taking evidence from Jockey D McDonogh, Trainer T P Yung and Starter Mr A Speechley, the Stewards found that as the start was effected the starting gate handler attempted to straighten the horse's head to allow it to jump with the field.

As he did so, MULTISUPER lowered its head, resulting in the horse jumping awkwardly and losing ground.

As the Stewards were satisfied that such occurrence occurred as the start was being effected, MULTISUPER was declared a runner.

The Stewards ruled that MULTISUPER will be required to attend barrier practice to the satisfaction of the Starter prior to performing satisfactorily in consecutive barrier trials before being allowed to race again.

Horse No 4 DO YOUR PART (J444) R Kingscote Jumped only fairly.

Between the 500 Metres and the 250 Metres was held up for clear running behind BINGO BABE.

Horse No 5 KA YING RESILIENCE (J439) B Shinn On jumping knuckled over badly, became unbalanced and lost ground.

After the event, B Shinn stated that following his mount knuckling badly at the start, KA YING RESILIENCE did not travel well thereafter and was unable to respond to his riding when under pressure over the concluding stages.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 HAPPY BOYS (J545) J Orman Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 7 IRON FIGHTER (J497) T Marquand Made contact with the left side of its barrier on jumping and as a result lost ground.

Horse No 9 JUSTIFYING (K027) L Ferraris Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 10 SUPER STRONG KID (K180) M Chadwick Jumped only fairly.

Shortly after the start was steadied when crowded by HE WAS YOU which shifted in and away from BINGO BABE.

When questioned regarding his riding over the final 400 Metres, M Chadwick stated that after following DO YOUR PART and ROMANTIC NOVELIST he elected to shift in to improve into the event near the 400 Metres and follow GRAND NOVA.

He said when GRAND NOVA did not improve as he had expected he then became held up for clear running between GRAND NOVA and DO YOUR PART which shifted in.

He said as a result near the 200 Metres he elected to shift to the outside of DO YOUR PART and BINGO BABE to secure clear running and near the 150 Metres his mount was momentarily crowded when BINGO BABE shifted out.

He added as a result he was obliged to correct his mount near the 150 Metres to avoid causing interference to ROMANTIC NOVELIST and over the final 100 Metres SUPER STRONG KID finished the race off well.

After considering his explanation, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Chadwick were reasonable in the circumstances.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 13 HE WAS YOU (J547) Y L Chung Shortly after the start was crowded by BINGO BABE which shifted in.

Under pressure over the final 200 Metres lay in.

Horse No 14 ROMANTIC NOVELIST (J167) L Hewitson Near the 150 Metres was steadied when crowded by SUPER STRONG KID (M Chadwick) which, after improving to the outside of BINGO BABE (M F Poon), was then taken out by that runner.

M Chadwick was advised that he should ensure that there is sufficient room when improving into runs.

M F Poon was advised to exercise more care to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.
