Recap by phillip woo

Following a speed-tracking run on the fence, raging favourite Soleil Fighter was too good after moving to the lead 250m out. He rung up a fourth Valley 1,650m win this term and put paid to this season's Million Challenge. He should remain competitive up in grade carrying a lighter weight. Romantic Laos ran on nicely to take second after biding his time second last from gate six in the nine-horse field. He is always a chance over this course and distance. Lean Hero ran on nicely down the outside to just take third after a one-off trip from behind midfield. It was a solid run on his seasonal reappearance following throat surgery in June and a bleed in October. Jumbo Legend came on late through the middle to just miss third after making his run at the rear from a wide draw. It was an encouraging run following throat surgery in December. Red Hare King only plodded after a one-off trip from better than midfield. It was an OK effort following a defeat when lame 21 days ago. I Can came up one paced after a rails run from midfield. He does appear from his past three starts to be on his mark following a win in December.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three : (459) - TSUI MAN HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 TELECOM FIGHTERS (D482) H Bowman After the event, H Bowman stated that his mount travelled satisfactorily in the lead and after making contact with the running rail near the 350 Metres became unbalanced.

He said under pressure in the Home Straight TELECOM FIGHTERS failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of TELECOM FIGHTERS was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race start.

Before being allowed to race again, TELECOM FIGHTERS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 2 RED HARE KING (H188) B Avdulla A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 3 SOLEIL FIGHTER (J127) R Moore Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 ROMANTIC LAOS (G476) K C Leung Was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 I CAN (H381) A Atzeni A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, I CAN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 7 JUMBO LEGEND (G266) K Teetan Jumped awkwardly.

From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Approaching the 150 Metres was steadied when disappointed for clear running between RED HARE KING and AERIS NOVA and as a result did not obtain clear running until after the 100 Metres.

Horse No 9 SIMPLE HEDGE (H237) A Badel Made contact with the left side of its barrier, became unbalanced and lost ground.

When questioned regarding his riding rounding the Home Turn and in the Home Straight, A Badel stated that after following I CAN, he elected not to attempt to shift to the outside of that runner making the Home Turn as SIMPLE HEDGE was not travelling well.

He said after I CAN shifted out on straightening, he elected to improve to that runner's inside as he had expected TELECOM FIGHTERS to continue to maintain its position in the lead.

He added near the 200 Metres he was disappointed for clear running to the inside of TELECOM FIGHTERS when that runner commenced to give ground quickly and shift in.

He said as a result he improved to the outside of TELECOM FIGHTERS but then over the final 200 Metres he could not fully test his mount to the finish when positioned behind I CAN.
