Recap by phillip woo

Written Casa travelled midfield on the rails and quickened nicely to take control 100m out for a first win at his sixth local start. Triumphant Warrior closed strongly along the inside to take second after making his run third last from gate 11. It was a better effort on his past few starts following a return to the course and distance of a second from two Valley 1,200m runs last term. Motoman stayed on well for third after slotting with cover effectively one-out, one-back 850m out. He had held his form well with thirds in his past two of three starts following a win. Post-time favourite Power Koepp found a few too good after a pace-stalking run from gate two. He went OK following a downgrade but does prefer a track with some give. Beauty Thunder made ground late to just miss the frame after a one-off trip from behind midfield. He's produced a decent sight in two of three Valley sprints following a downgrade. Fortune Whiskey ran on without threatening down the outside after settling wide travelling one from the rear. He couldn't offset a big weight following a second win from his past three starts.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three : (440) - KWAI CHUNG HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 POWER KOEPP (E301) M Chadwick Over the final 100 Metres lay in under pressure and near the 50 Metres made contact with SNOWTHORN.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 FORTUNE WHISKEY (J153) T Marquand Shortly after the start was steadied when crowded by LUCKY ARCHANGEL which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

Horse No 3 LUCKY ARCHANGEL (E385) M F Poon After the event, M F Poon stated that with the early stages of the event being run inside of standard time his mount was under pressure throughout the race and finished the race off only fairly in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 4 MOTOMAN (J436) A Atzeni In the middle stages raced ungenerously.

Horse No 5 BEAUTY THUNDER (J299) A Hamelin Near the 1150 Metres was steadied to avoid MOTOMAN which shifted out and way from NEBRASKAN.

Prior to declaring weighed-in, the Stewards gave consideration as to whether there were grounds for a protest/objection against POWER KOEPP being declared the 4th placegetter when POWER KOEPP shifted in approaching the 50 Metres.

As the Stewards were satisfied that BEAUTY THUNDER had not established clear running to the inside of POWER KOEPP, they declined to lodge a protest/objection when there were not sufficient grounds to do so.

Approaching the 50 Metres was eased and shifted to the outside of POWER KOEPP when disappointed for clear running.

Horse No 6 ONE FOR ALL (G012) L Ferraris When questioned, L Ferraris stated that his instructions were to take up a forward position and lead if possible.

He said he was also given instructions not to make too much use of his mount to do so.

He said after ONE FOR ALL commenced well he expected the horse to show its natural early pace to cross runners to its inside but when POWER KOEPP and NEBRASKAN held their positions to his inside ONE FOR ALL was obliged to race very wide making the first turn.

He added as a result he elected to obtain cover behind NEBRASKAN along the Back Straight, however, making the Home Turn ONE FOR ALL became awkward in its action and when under pressure in the Home Straight he was concerned there may be something amiss with his mount.

Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions were to lead and advised that he expected ONE FOR ALL to be able to lead without being pressured to do so as there did not appear to be strong pace in the race.

He added as such he had instructed Jockey Ferraris not to make too much use of his mount in the early stages as he felt the horse would have sufficient pace to cross runners to its inside.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 WRITTEN CASA (J305) K Teetan Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 8 NEBRASKAN (J304) B Thompson Making the first turn lay out.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 9 SUPER SICARIO (K306) K De Melo Jumped only fairly.

From the outside barrier was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 10 SNOWTHORN (K025) B Avdulla Passing the 50 Metres was bumped by POWER KOEPP (M Chadwick) which shifted in whilst being ridden along.

M Chadwick was reprimanded.

After the event, B Avdulla reported that making the turns near the 1000 Metres and after the 600 Metres his mount lay out.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 11 TRIUMPHANT WARRIOR (H430) H Doyle Near the 300 Metres lay in when being directed to the inside of WRITTEN CASA to obtain clear running.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 SOLAR UP (J134) A Badel A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, SOLAR UP will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
