Race Eight : (434) - THE HEUNG YEE KUK CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 2 - 1600Meters
Horse No 1 THE GOLDEN SCENERY (E379) B Avdulla From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 2 SUNLIGHT POWER (H244) H Bowman Between the 400 Metres and the 300 Metres lay in when being shifted to the outside of MID WINTER WIND to obtain clear running.
Horse No 4 KARMA (G392) T Marquand Raced keenly in the early stages.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 5 WOODFIRE BRO (G115) B Thompson Jumped only fairly.
Horse No 6 MONEY CATCHER (G171) A Badel Bumped on jumping.
Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No 7 MID WINTER WIND (K208) L Ferraris Bumped on jumping.
Bumped near the 50 Metres.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 8 MICKLEY (K082) A Hamelin From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.
Before being allowed to race again, MICKLEY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Horse No 10 VOYAGE SAMURAI (J026) K C Leung Near the 50 Metres bumped with MID WINTER WIND.
Horse No 11 JOHANNES BRAHMS (K014) A Atzeni When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer P C Ng stated that at the horse's last start it was disadvantaged by being taken wider in the middle stages and left without cover.
He said today JOHANNES BRAHMS was better suited by being able to obtain cover in the early and middle stages behind MID WINTER WIND and this was the principal reason for JOHANNES BRAHMS being able to run on strongly in the Home Straight.

Approaching the 400 Metres was shifted to the outside of JOHANNES BRAHMS to find clear running.

Horse No 13 FLAMING RABBIT (H257) K Teetan After the event, K Teetan reported that his mount settled slightly further back than anticipated despite his efforts to hold a more forward position.

Johannes Brahms was ridden patiently fifth last from gate 10, surged to the front 100m out and kept on bravely to just hold off Speed Dragon for the win. Speed Dragon ran on well down the outside to make it close on the wire after a patient ride fourth last from gate six. He was able to back up a win last start over the Valley 1,800m despite a rise in class. Sunlight Power ran on nicely for third without threatening the top two from behind midfield. He was carrying nine pounds more following a win. Voyage Samurai grudgingly gave way after dictating the run from gate seven. It was a return to form on his past few starts following a move to blinkers. Favourite Mid Winter Wind peaked on his run 50m out after moving to the front just under the 200m following a one-off trip from better than midfield. It wasn't a bad run. Karma whacked on one-paced when asked for an effort after overracing travelling fourth and one off the fence.
